Quadriceps force direction affects patellofemoral kinematics without impacting tibiofemoral stability: a cadaveric study

open access: yesKnee Surgery & Related Research
Background Surgical interventions to correct abnormal quadriceps direction are performed in cases of patellofemoral joint disorders, to medialize the patella and reduce lateral stress. However, excessive medialization can lead to increased contact forces

Neutral Larkin--Ovchinnikov--Fulde--Ferrell state and chromomagnetic instability in two-flavor dense QCD

open access: yes, 2005
In two-flavor dense quark matter, we describe the dynamics in the single plane wave Larkin--Ovchinnikov--Fulde--Ferrell (LOFF) state satisfying the color and electric neutrality conditions.

Damping Characteristics of Laminated Cantilever under Consideration of Position of Neutral Plane.

open access: yesTRANSACTIONS OF THE JAPAN SOCIETY OF MECHANICAL ENGINEERS Series C, 1994
This paper deals with damping characteristics of a laminated cantilever. In order to determine the loss factor of a three-layered cantilever with arbitrary thickness, an analytical method of evaluating the position of the neutral plane is presented when it exists in the middle layer.

A Neutral Hydrogen Self‐Absorption Cloud in the Southern Galactic Plane Survey

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal, 2003
Using data from the Southern Galactic Plane Survey (SGPS) we analyze an H I self-absorption cloud centered on l = 3180, b = -05 with velocity v = -1.1 km s-1. The cloud was observed with the Australia Telescope Compact Array (ATCA) and the Parkes Radio Telescope and is at a near-kinematic distance of 400 pc, with derived dimensions of 5 × 11 pc.

Hopfield Neural Networks for Online Constrained Parameter Estimation With Time‐Varying Dynamics and Disturbances

open access: yesInternational Journal of Adaptive Control and Signal Processing, EarlyView.
This paper proposes two projector‐based Hopfield neural network (HNN) estimators for online, constrained parameter estimation under time‐varying data, additive disturbances, and slowly drifting physical parameters. The first is a constraint‐aware HNN that enforces linear equalities and inequalities (via slack neurons) and continuously tracks the ...

Residual ultimate strength of a very large crude carrier considering probabilistic damage extents

open access: yesInternational Journal of Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering, 2014
This paper provides the prediction of ultimate longitudinal strengths of the hull girders of a very large crude carrier considering probabilistic damage extent due to collision and grounding accidents based on IMO Guidelines (2003).

First-Principles Study of Electronic and Vibrational Properties of BaHfN$_2$

open access: yes, 2010
The transition metal nitride BaHfN$_2$, which consists of weakly bonded neutral slabs of closed shell ions, has structural and chemical similarities to other layered nitrides which have impressive superconducting T$_c$ when electron doped: A$_x$HfNCl, A ...

β‐Catenin/c‐Myc Axis Modulates Autophagy Response to Different Ammonia Concentrations

open access: yesAdvanced Biology, Volume 9, Issue 3, March 2025.
Ammonia, detoxified by the liver into urea and glutamine, impacts autophagy differently at varying levels. Low ammonia activates autophagy via c‐Myc and β‐catenin, while high levels suppress it. Using Huh7 cells and Spf‐ash mice, c‐Myc's role in cytoprotective autophagy is revealed, offering insights into hyperammonemia and potential therapeutic ...

Free planar vibration of structures composed of rigid bodies and elastic beam segments [PDF]

open access: yesFME Transactions, 2017
This article presents free vibration analysis of structures composed of rigid bodies connected with elastic beam segments. It is assumed that the mass centers of rigid bodies are not located on the neutral axes of undeformed elastic beam segments as well

Influence of disorder and a parallel magnetic field on a Quantum Cascade Laser

open access: yes, 2000
The luminescence spectra of a quantum cascade laser in a strong magnetic field is influenced significantly by the presence of disorder (charged or neutral) in the system.
