Zero-voltage switching for the neutral-point-clamped (NPC) inverter

IEEE Transactions on Industrial Electronics, 2002
This paper proposes a transformer-assisted pulsewidth-modulation zero-voltage-switching neutral-point-clamped (NPC) inverter. With the assistance of a transformer-assisted small-rating lossless auxiliary circuit, the main switches work with zero-voltage switching without suffering from any voltage/current spikes, under simple explicit control.

ARCPI resonant snubber for the neutral-point-clamped (NPC) inverter

Conference Record of the 1999 IEEE Industry Applications Conference. Thirty-Forth IAS Annual Meeting (Cat. No.99CH36370), 2003
This paper reports a resonant snubber for the neutral-point-clamped (NPC) inverter using the auxiliary resonant commutated pole inverter (ARCPI) technique. The proposal guarantees zero-voltage switching of the main switches and zero-current switching of the auxiliary switches without incurring any voltage or current spikes across or through the main ...

Optimal power control strategies for neutral point clamped (NPC) inverter topology

IEEE Transactions on Industry Applications, 1992
A programmed pulsewidth modulation (PWM) technique for selectively eliminating several lower-order harmonics at the output of a neutral point clamped (NPC) inverter topology is investigated. The switching function approach is utilized to derive relevant analytical expressions for input/output variables.

A New Three-Level Active Neutral-Point-Clamped (A-NPC) Multilevel Converter Topology

IECON 2019 - 45th Annual Conference of the IEEE Industrial Electronics Society, 2019
This paper proposes a new three-level active neutral-point-clamped (A-NPC) converter topology. The classic three-level A-NPC converter's phase-leg (per-phase) comprises the four line-frequency (LF) and two full-cycle-switched high-frequency (HF) pulse-width-modulation (PWM) power switches such as the insulated-gate bipolar transistors (IGBTs).

Model of three level neutral point clamped converter (NPC) for grid connected photovoltaic systems

2015 38th International Convention on Information and Communication Technology, Electronics and Microelectronics (MIPRO), 2015
Photovoltaic modules as direct converters of solar energy into electrical energy are typically connected to the power grid trough standard two level converters. A photovoltaic system can be connected to the power grid if it can satisfy the IEEE standardized conditions set by the power grid operator.

A soft commutated neutral-point-clamped (NPC) inverter: theory and experimentation

APEC '98 Thirteenth Annual Applied Power Electronics Conference and Exposition, 2002
A soft commutation circuit aimed to substitute for the conventional snubber in a GTO NPC inverter is presented in this paper. The small rating lossless auxiliary branch creates soft switching conditions for the main devices without having to subject them to extra voltage/current spikes or any modulation constraints.

Evaluation of soft switching techniques for the neutral-point-clamped (NPC) inverter

30th Annual IEEE Power Electronics Specialists Conference. Record. (Cat. No.99CH36321), 2003
This paper evaluates the topological variants of the soft switching NPC inverter based on the resonant pole techniques. Conventional dissipative and regenerative snubbers as well as soft switching techniques for NPC inverter discussed in the past decade are reviewed first.

A neutral point clamped multilevel topology flow graph and space NPC multilevel topology

2015 IEEE Energy Conversion Congress and Exposition (ECCE), 2015
Neutral-Point Clamped (NPC), such as diode-clamped, multilevel inverter technology has emerged recently as a very important alternative in the area of high-power medium-voltage energy control. However, the NPC Multilevel topology also has variable type of structure which cannot be found due to lack of systematic derivation methodology.
