Managing the DC link neutral potential of the three-phase-four-wire neutral-point-clamped (NPC) inverter in FACTS application

IECON'99. Conference Proceedings. 25th Annual Conference of the IEEE Industrial Electronics Society (Cat. No.99CH37029), 2003
To compensate for the zero sequence current arising from asymmetrical operation of a transmission line, a neutral point clamped (NPC) inverter with a fourth wire must be employed. The most significant challenge arising from controlling of the four-wire NPC inverter consists in stabilizing the neutral point potential at the DC link middle value.

Modeling and control of neutral-point-clamping (NPC) three-level inverters fed dual-three phase PMSM drives

2015 IEEE Energy Conversion Congress and Exposition (ECCE), 2015
This paper studies the modeling, switching strategy and control scheme for NPC three-level (NPC-3L) inverter fed dual-three-phase permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) drives. Firstly, the dynamic modeling of the system is described and analyzed.

A Simplified PWM Strategy for a Neutral-Point-Clamped (NPC) Three-Level Converter With Unbalanced DC Links

IEEE Transactions on Power Electronics, 2016
A simplified pulse width modulation (PWM) strategy for a neutral-point-clamped three-level converter with unbalanced dc links is proposed in this paper to achieve high-quality line-to-line output voltages and to maximize the linear modulation range. The simplified strategy takes the direct output voltage modulation by calculating the special solutions ...

Neuro-Computing Vector Classification SVM Schemes to Integrate the Overmodulation Region in Neutral Point Clamped (NPC) Converters

IEEE Transactions on Power Electronics, 2007
Three-level neutral point clamped (NPC) voltage source converters have recently emerged as important alternatives to conventional two-level converter topologies in high-power medium-voltage energy conversion applications, particularly in high performance ac motor drive systems.

Discontinuous PWM Modulation Strategy With Circuit-Level Decoupling Concept of Three-Level Neutral-Point-Clamped (NPC) Inverter

IEEE Transactions on Industrial Electronics, 2013
A new pulse width modulation (PWM) strategy which is an alternative approach of the discontinuous PWM (DPWM) for a three-level neutral-point-clamped (NPC) inverter is developed and presented in this paper. The proposed PWM scheme not only takes advantage of the special properties available in NPC inverters, but also reduces the switching loss of the ...

A carrier-based pwm method with the double frequency voltage injection for three-level neutral-point clamped (NPC) converters

2017 Asian Conference on Energy, Power and Transportation Electrification (ACEPT), 2017
A well-known problem of three-level neutral point clamped (NPC) inverter is the voltage imbalance in the dc-link capacitors. This paper proposes the dc-link capacitor voltage balancing method where a common offset voltage is injected. The offset voltage consists of a harmonic voltage and a magnitude difference between the upper and the lower capacitors.

Enhanced soft-switched T-type neutral-point clamped (T-NPC) inverter with reduced component number

Review of Scientific Instruments
This paper presents an enhanced soft-switched T-type neutral-point clamped inverter featuring a compact active snubber cell that delivers zero-voltage transition turn-on and zero-voltage switching (ZVS) turn-off for the main switches, while auxiliary switches operate with zero-current switching turn-on and ZVS turn-off.

Vector space decomposition based control of neutral-point-clamping (NPC) three-level inverters fed dual three-phase PMSM drives

IECON 2016 - 42nd Annual Conference of the IEEE Industrial Electronics Society, 2016
This paper is to study the control scheme for neutral-point-clamping three-level (NPC-3L) inverters fed dual three-phase permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) drives based on vector space decomposition (VSD). The key is to propose a novel VSD based space vector modulation (SVM) strategy for the dual-three phase drives.

Modified virtual space vector based DC-bus voltage balancing for three-level neutral point clamped (NPC) traction inverter drive

2015 IEEE Energy Conversion Congress and Exposition (ECCE), 2015
A modified virtual space vector based DC-link voltage balancing strategy is proposed in this paper. The summation of the three phase currents for the virtual vector needs not to be zero and it also keeps the two capacitor voltages balanced over a wider range of load variations.

Reduced common mode voltage based DC-bus voltage balancing algorithm for three-level neutral point clamped (NPC) inverter drive

2015 IEEE Energy Conversion Congress and Exposition (ECCE), 2015
A reduced common mode voltage (CMV) based DC-link voltage balancing strategy is proposed for a neutral point clamped (NPC) three-level inverter with permanent magnet synchronous machine. Compared to the earlier proposed strategy, it completely eliminates the V dc /2 corresponding CMV by eliminating the two zero voltage vectors (PPP, NNN) from the space
