Rethinking plastic waste: innovations in enzymatic breakdown of oil‐based polyesters and bioplastics

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Plastic pollution remains a critical environmental challenge, and current mechanical and chemical recycling methods are insufficient to achieve a fully circular economy. This review highlights recent breakthroughs in the enzymatic depolymerization of both oil‐derived polyesters and bioplastics, including high‐throughput protein engineering, de novo ...

A New Method to Monitor the Primary Neutral Integrity in Multi-Grounded Neutral Systems

open access: yesEnergies, 2017
In the three-phase four-wire system, there are usually multiple grounding points in the primary neutral line due to safety and economic considerations. The rising “neutral to earth voltage (NEV)” caused by a broken primary neutral can threaten the safety

Pion Number Fluctuations and Correlations in the Statistical System with Fixed Isospin

open access: yes, 2010
The statistical system of pions with zero total isospin is studied. The suppression effects for the average yields due to isospin conservation are the same for $\pi^0$, $\pi^+$ and $\pi^-$.

Climate policy costs of spatially unbalanced growth in electricity demand: the case of datacentres. ESRI Working Paper No. 657 March 2020 [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
We investigate the power system implications of the anticipated expansion in electricity demand by datacentres. We perform a joint optimisation of Generation and Transmission Expansion Planning considering uncertainty in future datacentre growth under ...

Hands‐on protocol for preparing water‐soluble fractions from agri‐food samples for NMR‐based metabolomics analysis

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
This research protocol outlines a workflow for nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR)‐based metabolomics in the agri‐food sector. Using two case studies—strawberry leaves (solid matrix) and wine (liquid matrix)—it details the procedures for sample preparation, data acquisition, and processing.

Observation of Mixing-induced CP Violation in the Neutral B Meson System

open access: yes, 2002
This report describes an observation of mixing-induced CP violation and a measurement of the CP violation parameter, sin(2phi_1), with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric e+e- collider.

Neutral-Meson Systems: Decays

open access: yes, 1999
Abstract Entering in the description of those decays. Physics must be invariant under the phase redefinitions in eqns (6.10) and also under We see that the quantities which are rephasing-invariant, and therefore have a chance to be observable, are the magnitudes From the quantities in eqns (7.4) and (7.5) only four real numbers are ...

Engineering tandem VHHs to target different epitopes to enhance antibody‐dependent cell‐mediated cytotoxicity

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Tandem VHH targeting distinct EGFR epitopes were engineered into a monovalent bispecific antibody (7D12‐EGA1‐Fc) with more potent ADCC without increasing affinity to EGFR. Structural modeling of 7D12‐EGA1‐Fc showed cross‐linking of separate EGFR domains to enhance CD16a engagement on NK cells.

Speaker Identification in Different Emotional States in Arabic and English

open access: yesIEEE Access, 2020
Speaker recognition is an important application of digital speech processing. However, a major challenge degrading the robustness of speaker-recognition systems is variation in the emotional states of speakers, such as happiness, anger, sadness, or ...
