Neutron halo structure, 9Li-neutron and neutron-neutron momentum correlations in 11Li

Nuclear Physics A, 1992
Abstract The approximate three-body approach COSMA is used to explore the structure of 11Li. This “Borromean” system is discussed with reference to the similar system 6He for which information on the binary subsystems is more complete. Spatial densities and a variety of correlated momentum distributions for 9Li-n and nn are calculated.

NEUTRON LOGGING OF DRILL HOLES: THE NEUTRON‐NEUTRON METHOD

GEOPHYSICS, 1951
Experiments were performed to determine the distribution of thermal neutrons and of indium resonance neutrons in continuous hydrogenous media and in pipes passing through hydrogenous media. Included in the study were water, brine, mixtures of sand and water, and mixtures of sand and brine. Experiments in a continuous typical barite drilling mud showed

Neutron-Neutron Interaction

Reviews of Modern Physics, 1967
The present status of the problem of charge dependence is discussed. The information about the neutron-neutron interaction derived from the two-neutron system, three-nucleon systems, final-state interactions in multiparticle reactions, and peripheral processes is critically evaluated.

Stringent constraints on neutron-star radii from multimessenger observations and nuclear theory

Nature Astronomy, 2019
The properties of neutron stars are determined by the nature of the matter that they contain. These properties can be constrained by measurements of the star’s size.

Micromegas neutron beam monitor neutronics

Radiation Protection Dosimetry, 2005
The Micromegas is a type of ionising radiation detector that consists of a gas chamber sandwiched between two parallel plate electrodes, with the gas chamber divided by a Frisch grid into drift and amplification gaps. Investigators have applied it to a number of different applications, such as charged particle, X-ray and neutron detection. A Micromegas

Identification of strontium in the merger of two neutron stars

Nature, 2019
Half of all of the elements in the Universe that are heavier than iron were created by rapid neutron capture. The theory underlying this astrophysical r-process was worked out six decades ago, and requires an enormous neutron flux to make the bulk of the

Neutron-neutron interaction in the S-state

Nuclear Physics, 1965
Abstract The proton spectrum at its upper end point in the D(n, p)2n reaction is investigated for determining the neutron-neutron scattering length a nn . A scintillation spectrometer in which deuterons and protons are completely separated is used for the investigation. An expression for the differential cross section of the reaction, obtained from

Inside the neutron

Physics World, 1996
Neutrons make up more than half the matter in our everyday world. As its name implies, the neutron is electrically neutral, but the quarks that make up a neutron are charged. Moreover, the distributions of positive and negative quarks inside a neutron are different, which leads to a separation of charge inside the uncharged particle.

Neutron radiography with ultracold neutrons

Physics Letters A, 1981
Abstract The neutron transmission factor of very thin films may be low if the neutron energy is comparable to the pseudo-potential of the film material. Surprisingly, perhaps, it is relatively easy to obtain neutrons with such low energies in sufficient numbers to produce neutron radiographs.

Neutron-Neutron Scattering Length

Physical Review, 1961
The final-state interaction of the two neutrons from the reaction pi / sup -/ + d yields 2n + gamma has a pronounced and distinctive effect on tbe momentum spectrum of the outgoing particles. In particular, the neutron spectrum is sharply peaked in the neighborhood of 2 Mev, with a shape that is quite sensitive to the strength of the nn interaction. In
