Amorphization of solids irradiated by fast neutrons

Physica B: Condensed Matter, 2000
The diffraction patterns of amorphous solids produced by both a conventional technique and fast neutron irradiation were systematized. The diffraction patterns of the substances of these classes differ essentially. It was first ever shown that neutron radiation modified solids belong to the group of amrophous substances of a distortion type.

The dosimetry of bone irradiated by fast neutrons

Physics in Medicine and Biology, 1986
The previous work on the dosimetry of bone is briefly reviewed. A dosimetric theory for the response of detectors irradiated by fast neutrons is applied to the problem of bone dosimetry. In the theory the detector or cavity shape is characterised by distributions of chord lengths along which the neutron-produced charged particles travel and deposit ...

Neutron Irradiation of Human Melanoma Cells

Pigment Cell Research, 1989
The biological characteristics and in vitro radiosensitivity of melanoma cells to thermal neutrons were investigated as a guide to the effectiveness of boron neutron capture therapy. Plateau phase cultures of three human malignant melanoma‐established cell lines were examined for cell density at confluence, doubling time, cell cycle parameters ...

Irradiation embrittlement of neutron-irradiated ferritic steel

Journal of Nuclear Materials, 1985
Abstract In this study three kinds of Fe-Cr ferritic steels were examined by the instrumented Charpy test and tensile test before and after JMTR irradiation ( 2.2×10 23 f.n./m 2 ). In the unirradiated samples, 100%-martensite 5Cr-2Mo steel showed the highest adsorbed energy and the highest toughness at low temperatures, follewed by ...

Post-irradiation annealing of neutron irradiated CuCrZr

Journal of Nuclear Materials, 2002
The effect of post-irradiation annealing at 300 °C for 50 h on the microstructure and mechanical properties of CuCrZr irradiated to 0.2 and 0.3 dpa at 100 °C has been evaluated. The post-irradiation annealing removes the yield point phenomenon, lowers the strength and improves the ductility and work hardening of the material.

Magnetic relaxation in neutron-irradiated iron

Physica Status Solidi (a), 1973
Measurements of the magnetic after-effect, observed as a time decrease of the initial susceptibility, have been made on high purity iron after irradiation with fast neutrons to a dose of 9.8 × 1018n cm−2 at 45°C. Below 0°C strong relaxation peaks were observed at −68 and −13°C, in good agreement with earlier work, and attributed to the reorientation of

Correction of Optical Aberrations by Neutron Irradiation

Applied Optics, 1971
The refractive index of optical materials can be modified by means of neutron irradiation. By varying the radiation dose over selected areas of a lens according to some given law, the local change in the refractive index can be adjusted to correct for different types of optical aberrations.

Positron lifetimes for neutron-irradiated C $_{60}$

Applied Physics A: Materials Science & Processing, 1995
The neutron-irradiation effects on C60 fullerite powder were studied by positron lifetime spectroscopy. Below 0.5 ns, a single lifetime of 382±1 ps was found for the unirradiated annealed sample and two components were resolved after neutron irradiation with a dose of 2×1016 n/cm2. Possible origins of these components are briefly discussed.

Proton and neutron irradiation effects of Ti:sapphires

IEEE Conference Record - Abstracts. 1999 IEEE International Conference on Plasma Science. 26th IEEE International Conference (Cat. No.99CH36297), 2003
Summary form only given. Various effects of proton and neutron irradiated Ti:sapphires were studied. Proton irradiation induced F, F/sup +/ and V centers in Ti:sapphires and 3310 cm/sup -1/ infrared absorption, and made ultraviolet absorption edge shift to short wave.
