EOS of neutron-rich matter and pure neutron matter

Science China Physics, Mechanics and Astronomy, 2012
We report the equation of state (EOS) of pure neutron matter (PNM) and neutron-rich matter (NRM) for the realistic Urbana V14 two nucleon interaction, obtained by using a Variational Monte Carlo (VMC) method. Also, many body interactions are included as a phenomenological density dependent term in the potential.

Energy Transfer to Matter by Neutrons

Radiation Research, 1968
Calculations of energy transfer (kerma) for neutrons from thermal to 18-MeV energy have been carried out for hydrogen, carbon, nitrogen, and oxygen and for ten compounds or mixtures including tissue. All pertinent nuclear reaction processes are included.

Interaction of Neutrons with Matter

2009
This chapter addresses neutron interactions with absorber atoms. Neutrons, by virtue of their neutrality, are indirectly ionizing radiation exhibiting, similarly to photons, a quasi-exponential penetration into an absorber. They deposit energy in absorber through a two-step process: energy transfer to heavy charged particles and energy deposition in ...

Solid neutron matter

Physical Review D, 1975
The ground state of solid neutron matter is investigated using the $t$-matrix formalism developed for the quantum crystal problem. Studies of neutrons interacting through the repulsive part of the Reid $^{1}S_{0}$ interaction, the Reid $^{1}S_{0}$ interaction, and the full Reid potentials are made in the Hartree, Hartree $t$-matrix, Hartree-Fock, and ...

Magnetization of neutron matter

AIP Conference Proceedings, 2011
In this paper, we compute magnetization of neutron matter at strong magnetic field using the lowest order constrained variational (LOCV) technique.

The Crystallization of Neutronic Matter

Nature Physical Science, 1972
Solidification pressure PS of neutron matter has been estimated on the basis of the quantum mechanical principle of corresponding states, using density dependent characteristic reduction parameters derived from a realistic twonucleon interaction. Three procedures yield Ps¯≈ 5 × 1027 atm, in essential agreement with an earlier estimate1.

Neutrons in Disordered Matter

Physica Scripta, 1995
The second in a series of Euroconferences on the use of neutrons for studies of condensed matter was arranged 9th to 13th of June 1994 at the Wijk conference center in the Stockholm archipelago. The Euroconference was sponsored by the Commission of the European Communities, Nobel Committees for Physics and Chemistry of the Royal Swedish Academy of ...

Neutrons Matter

Abstract The nuclear force is key to the existence of life. The sun shines due to nuclear reactions, and there would be no life without the sun’s energy. Subtle aspects of the nuclear force are also important for life. The fact that the neutron is very slightly heavier than the proton is essential to the existence of hydrogen, the sun’s ...

Neutron Interaction with Matter

1992
The design and operation of a nuclear reactor requires the ability to determine how neutrons are distributed within a reactor core. This can be achieved by deriving and solving “neutron balance” equations which include all the relevant neutron loss and gain rates.
