Design and Initial Tests of a Fast Neutron Radiography Detector Prototype with Silicon Photomultiplier Readouts

open access: yesApplied Sciences
Among non-destructive testing (NDT) techniques, fast neutron radiography with a higher penetration capability has achieved rapid advancements. However, the application of the radiography detector in many fast neutron imaging systems is limited by ...

Is the Shroud of Turin in Relation to the Old Jerusalem Historical Earthquake?

open access: yes, 2015
Phillips and Hedges suggested, in the scientific magazine Nature (1989), that neutron radiation could be liable of a wrong radiocarbon dating, while proton radiation could be responsible of the Shroud body image formation. On the other hand, no plausible

The risk of basal and squamous cell carcinomas of the skin cancer incidence and external radiation in the updated National Registry for radiation workers cohort in the UK

open access: yesInternational Journal of Cancer, Volume 158, Issue 3, Page 574-586, 1 February 2026.
What's new? While ultraviolet radiation from the sun is the main risk factor for non‐melanoma skin cancer (NMSC), additional factors contribute to NMSC development. The present study examined the impact of occupational radiation exposure on NMSC risk among radiation workers in the United Kingdom.

Metal Ion Doping in Cs3Cu2I5 Crystals: Strategies to Regulate the Optoelectronic Property for Enhanced X‐Ray Scintillation and Imaging

open access: yesSmall Structures, Volume 7, Issue 2, February 2026.
This review mainly summarizes the synthesis, optical properties, and underlying mechanisms of metal ion doping (including Tl+, In+, Mn2+, alkali metals, and alkaline earth metals) in tailoring the optoelectronic properties of Cs3Cu2I5 crystals for scintillation applications. Besides, it highlights the emerging application prospects of Cs3Cu2I5 crystals,

Scanning of Vehicles for Nuclear Materials

open access: yes, 2013
Might a nuclear-armed terrorist group or state use ordinary commerce to deliver a nuclear weapon by smuggling it in a cargo container or vehicle? This delivery method would be the only one available to a sub-state actor, and it might enable a state to ...

Strength α‐Quartz: New Results From High Pressure In Situ X‐Ray Diffraction Experiments

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Solid Earth, Volume 131, Issue 2, February 2026.
Abstract We present a suite of 13 uniaxial deformation experiments on fine grained polycrystalline α‐quartz conducted in a D‐DIA apparatus monitored with in situ synchrotron x‐rays. Experimental temperatures range from 25°C to 1199°C with pressures between 1.4 and 3.2 GPa, and strain rates between 3.4 × 10−6 s−1 and 1.8 × 10−5 s−1.

Neutron radiography as a tool for revealing root development in soil: capabilities and limitations [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Neutron Radiography (NR) is a valuable non-invasive tool to study in situ root development in soil. However, there is a lacuna of quantitative information on its capabilities and limitations. We combined neutron radiography with image analysis techniques
