New neutron sources for radiotherapy
Physics in Medicine and Biology, 1984All existing neutron sources suffer from disadvantages which would not be tolerated in modern megavoltage X-ray equipment. Experimental work with 30-60 MeV protons on beryllium and other elements has shown how these difficulties can to a large extent be overcome.

Coded aperture techniques have been applied to neutron radiography to address limitations in neutron flux and resolution of neutron detectors in a system labeled coded source imaging (CSI). By coding the neutron source, a magnified imaging system is designed with small spot size aperture holes (10 and 100μm) for improved resolution beyond the ...

Neutron spectra of 239PuBe neutron sources
Nuclear Instruments and Methods, 1977Abstract Neutron spectra of 239 PuBe(α, n) sources have been calculated by using the most recent data on the differential cross sections and angular distributions. The contribution from the multibody break-up reaction 9 Be(α, αn) 8 Be has also been incorporated.

Polarized neutrons for pulsed neutron sources
Journal of Neutron Research, 2005Polarized neutrons provide a powerful tool for research at today’s continuous neutron sources, permitting unique information to be obtained from neutron-scattering experiments and in the area of fundamental neutron physics. The information obtained is indispensable to important areas of current research such as magnetism, spin fluctuations in ...

Neutron sources for cancer therapy
The British Journal of Radiology, 1980In an investigation of collimated neutron sources suitable for cancer teletherapy, Mijnheer et al. (1978) have reported dose build-up, depth dose, and gamma-ray production for three neutron sources: d(50)+Be, p(42)+Be, and d+T. They conclude that the former two sources are preferable to the d+T source on the basis of the results on depth dose and ...

The neutron spectrum of AmBe neutron sources
Nuclear Instruments and Methods, 1973Neutron spectra of 241Am9Be(α,n) sources have been calculated by using the most recent data on angular distributions. The contribution from the multibody break-up reaction 9Be(α,αn)8Be has also been incorporated by using the measured angular distributions of this reaction at various energies.

Pulsed thermal neutron source at the fast neutron generator
Applied Radiation and Isotopes, 2009A small pulsed thermal neutron source has been designed based on results of the MCNP simulations of the thermalization of 14 MeV neutrons in a cluster-moderator which consists of small moderating cells decoupled by an absorber. Optimum dimensions of the single cell and of the whole cluster have been selected, considering the thermal neutron intensity ...

A Fast Neutron Source for Radiotherapy
Nature, 1964ONE of the factors which may determine the effectiveness of an X-ray treatment is the oxygen tension in the tumour to be destroyed, in that the radiation is relatively less effective in killing the anoxic cells at the centre. This was demonstrated by Gray et al.1, who also showed that the biological effects produced by 2.3-MeV neutrons are much less ...

Neutron Dosimetric Quantities For Several Radioisotopic Neutron Sources
Health Physics, 1992The fluence-weighted and dose equivalent-weighted average energies, and the spectrum-averaged fluence-to-dose equivalent conversion factors have been calculated for 52 spectrum variations of 20 different radioisotopic neutron sources. An internally consistent method of determination enables comparison of values for different spectra.

Neutron source for Neutron Capture Synovectomy
AIP Conference Proceedings, 2011Monte Carlo calculations were performed to obtain a thermal neutron field from a 239PuBe neutron source inside a cylindrical heterogeneous moderators for Neutron Capture Synovectomy. Studied moderators were light water and heavy water, graphite and heavy water, lucite and polyethylene and heavy water.
