Vacancy‐Suppressed Garnet Electrolytes for Durable Solid‐State Batteries

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A Li/O‐rich sintering strategy effectively suppresses intrinsic lithium and oxygen vacancies in cubic garnet electrolytes, yielding a dense and stable microstructure. The vacancy‐controlled electrolyte exhibits enhanced interfacial and air stability, enabling long‐term solid‐state battery cycling and providing a general design principle for defect ...

Boosting Fast‐Charging Performance of Ni‐Rich NCM9055 Cathodes with Nb2O5 Dual Functional Modification

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A dual‐functional Nb2O5 modulation strategy is reported to overcome kinetic limitations in Ni‐rich cathodes. The formation of LiNbO3 phase at the grain boundary of the polycrystalline NCM9055 cathode preserves a radially aligned microstructure and establishes fast lithium‐ion pathways.

A Concept for a Multipurpose Time-of-Flight Neutron Reflectometer at Compact Neutron Sources

open access: yesInstruments
The design of a time-of-flight neutron reflectometer proposed for the new generation of compact neutron sources is presented. The reflectometer offers the possibility to use spin-polarized neutrons. The reflectometer design presented here takes advantage

Tunable Negative Thermal Expansion in Fe/Cr‐Substituted Nd2Co17 Compounds via Magnetoelastic Coupling

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study achieves anisotropic thermal expansion tuning in Nd2(Co1‐xFex)17‐yCry compounds via a magnetoelastic strategy. Variable‐temperature synchrotron X‐ray diffraction reveals that increased Fe content induces switchable lattice responses. Compositional control reduces the volume expansion coefficient αV by 20% (x═0.7) and modulates TC (442–625 K),

Photonuclear Population of 229m,gTh in Th‐Doped Crystals Toward Nuclear Clock Development

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study demonstrates a novel photonuclear approach for producing the nuclear clock isomer 229mTh in thorium‐doped crystals, overcoming current supply limitations. Through cross‐section calculations and Monte Carlo simulations, we identify optimal crystal materials and irradiation conditions, achieving high signal‐to‐noise ratios.

New High‐Tc Charge‐Transfer Multiferroicity in the Quasi‐2D Antiferromagnet CrSbS3

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Low‐dimensional magnets, particularly 2D systems, offer a rich platform for realizing unconventional multiferroic mechanisms, especially when multiple polarization channels coexist. In the quasi‐2D antiferromagnet CrSbS3, which crystallizes in the centrosymmetric orthorhombic space group Pnma and orders magnetically at TN ≈ 90 K, two ...

Optimizing neutron shielding: A specialised container approach for Disused Sealed Radioactive Sources and orphan neutron emitters

open access: yesNuclear Analysis
Shielding Disused Sealed Radioactive Sources (DSRSs) and orphan neutron sources, such as 252Cf, pose challenges due to the high penetration of neutrons, induced radioactivity in shielding materials, and the limited availability of compact, effective ...
