Entrapment Behavior of Solid Surrogate Fission Products at Engineered UN Nano‐Hetero‐Interfaces Within Metallic Nuclear Fuels

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Interfaces, EarlyView.
This work endeavors to engineer uranium mononitride (UN) nanostructures within a metallic nuclear fuel (U─Mo), in order to trap potential fission products (Nd). From consolidation of the nanostructured U─Mo powders all the way to 1000 h at reactor‐like temperatures (500 °C), Nd preferentially migrates to nanostructure boundaries (hetero‐interfaces ...

Advances in Halide Perovskites for Photon Radiation Detectors

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
This work highlights recent progress in perovskite‐based photon radiation detectors, covering organic–inorganic hybrid, inorganic, lead‐free double, and vacancy‐ordered halide perovskites. Their detection performance is compared, material‐specific advantages and challenges are examined, and provides insight into current limitations and future ...

"Doublet", Neutron and Neutron stars --- An essay on Landau and Neutron stars

open access: yes, 2011
The concept of extremely dense matter at supra-nuclear density was first speculated by L. Landau in the beginning of 1930s when neutron was just discovered. A historical review on these issues not only explains the interaction between micro and cosmic physics, but also has profound implications for scientific innovation.

One Dimensional Metal Oxide Semiconductor Nanotransistors

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
This review assesses one dimensional metal oxide NW‐FETs as promising alternatives to conventional transistors. It explores how advances in architecture, material composition, and fabrication processes expand device capabilities. Emphasis is placed on novel gate configurations, different metal oxide nanowires, and post‐treatment methods, which ...

Neutron-capture Element Abundances of 491 Stars in Milky Way Dwarf Satellite Galaxies from Medium-resolution Spectra

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
The chemical compositions of evolved stars in Local Group dwarf spheroidal galaxies (dSphs) provide insight into the galaxy’s past star formation and nucleosynthesis. Neutron-capture element abundances are especially interesting.

Hyperons in neutron stars

open access: yesZeitschrift fr Physik A Atomic Nuclei, 1987
Generalized beta equilibrium involving nucleons, hyperons and isobars is examined for neutron star matter. The hyperons produce a considerable softening of the equation of state. It is shown that the observed masses of neutron stars can be used to settle a recent controversy concerning the nuclear compressibility.

Size Effect on Photothermal Heating Ability of Gold Bipyramids

open access: yesAdvanced Optical Materials, EarlyView.
Gold bipyramids with identical spectral characteristics exhibits opposite volume‐dependent photo‐thermal heating at single‐particle versus collective scales. The thermal energy can be used to generate mechanical work by powering Stirling engine. Abstract Gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) exhibit photothermal properties that are fundamental to biomedical and ...
