Temperature-dependent neutron scattering cross-sections for polyethylene [PDF]

open access: yesNuclear Instruments and Methods in Physics Research Section A: Accelerators, Spectrometers, Detectors and Associated Equipment, 2005
This note presents neutron scattering cross sections for polyethylene at 296 K, 77 K and 4 K derived from a new scattering kernel for neutron scattering off of hydrogen in polyethylene. The kernel was developed in ENDF-6 format as a set of S(alpha, beta) tables using the LEAPR module of the NJOY94 code package. The polyethylene density of states (from 0

Irradiation‐Induced Spin Bath Evolution and as‐Grown Hydrogen Defects in CVD Diamond Revealed by NV‐Based DEER Spectroscopy

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Here, we provide the reader with the current state of the art in the fabrication of high‐T2‐coherence diamond, optimized through the use of double electron–electron resonance (DEER) spectroscopy. We reveal the main as well as yet unidentified spin defects, the reduction of which is essential for reducing the spin bath and fabricating materials for ...

Giant Magnetic Coercivity Driven by Spin‐Bag Ferromagnetism in Epitaxial Sr3YCo4O10+δ Films with Engineered 2D Oxygen Vacancy Ordering

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A giant magnetic coercivity and a vertical shift of hysteresis loops are demonstrated in Sr3YCo4O10+δ epitaxial films. The hard magnetic behavior originates from ferromagnetic spin bags stabilized within a long‐range ordered oxygen‐vacancy structure.

Impact of Disorder on Microscopic Superconducting and Normal‐State Responses in a Kagome Metal

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Using depth‐resolved, field‐ and pressure‐dependent μSR$\umu{\rm SR}$ measurements, we show that disorder in Ta‐doped KV3Sb5 drives a crossover from nodal to nodeless superconductivity while strongly modifying the normal‐state magnetic response. Our results reveal that disorder affects superconductivity and magnetism in fundamentally different ways ...

A Thermodynamic Model of Antiferroelectics and Its Application to Electric Field Induced Antiferroelectric‐Ferroelectric Transition in PbZrO3

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A thermodynamic model that incorporates ferroelectric, antiferroelectric, and antiferrodistortive orders of PbZrO3${\rm PbZrO}_3$ is established and parameterized based on experimental measurements and first‐principles calculations. We derive a Clapeyron‐like equation for describing the temperature‐dependence of critical electric fields for the ...

Spin Dynamics in the van der Waals Ferromagnet CrTe2 Engineered by Niobium Doping

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Spin‐dynamic magnetic properties of van der Waals (vdW) ferromagnet 1T‐CrTe2 are tuned via niobium (Nb) as Cr1‐xNbxTe2 (x = 0–0.2). Nb doping enables wide‐band tuning of the resonance frequency from 40 GHz down to the few‐GHz regime, accompanied by a moderate increase in the Gilbert damping from ∼0.066 to ∼0.14.

Neutron density waves versus temperature waves

open access: yesInternational Journal of Advanced Nuclear Reactor Design and Technology, 2021
Neutron and temperature wave propagations have specific applications in the dynamics of nuclear installations. This paper is a timely review of the concept of plane neutron density wave, within the context of monochromatic diffusion theory, with a focus ...

Solution‐Processed Mn‐Doped 2d Perovskite Wavelength Shifters for Noble‐Liquid Photon Detection

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Solution‐processed Mn2+‐doped PEA2PbBr4 two‐dimensional perovskite films are demonstrated as large‐area wavelength shifters for noble‐liquid photon detectors. Mn2+ incorporation introduces a broad emission band at ∼620 nm with a large Stokes shift, suppressing self‐absorption and matching SiPM sensitivity.
