Neutron-mirror neutron mixing and neutron stars [PDF]

open access: yesThe European Physical Journal C, 2021
AbstractThe oscillation of neutron n into mirror neutron $$n'$$ n ′ , its mass degenerate partner from dark mirror sector, can gradually transform the neutron stars into the mixed stars consisting in part of mirror dark matter. In quark stars $$n-n'$$

Neutron–Mirror-Neutron Oscillation and Neutron Star Cooling

open access: yesPhysical Review Letters, 2022
It was pointed out in a recent paper that the observed cooling rate of old, cold neutron stars (NS) can provide an upper limit on the transition rate of neutron to mirror neutron ($n-n'$). This limit is so stringent that it would preclude any discovery of $n \to n'$ oscillation in the current round of terrestrial searches for the process.

Neutron-neutron and neutron-photon correlations withFREYA [PDF]

open access: yesEPJ Web of Conferences, 2017
For many years, the state of the art for modeling fission in radiation transport codes has involved sampling from average distributions. However, in a true fission event, the energies, momenta and multiplicities of emitted particles are correlated. The FREYA (Fission Reaction Event Yield Algorithm) code generates complete fission events. Event-by-event

An aerogel Cherenkov detector for multi-GeV photon detection with low sensitivity to neutrons [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
We describe a novel photon detector which operates under an intense flux of neutrons. It is composed of lead-aerogel sandwich counter modules. Its salient features are high photon detection efficiency and blindness to neutrons. As a result of Monte Carlo
