Neutron ellipsometry

open access: yesJournal of Magnetism and Magnetic Materials, 1993
We discuss the similarities which exist between the reflection of neutrons from ferromagnetic media and the reflection of light from media rendered gyrotropic by the application of a magnetic field, and show that the vector character of the neutron polarisation can be fully exploited in spin-analysed neutron reflection measurements (termed 'neutron ...

Selective Benzene Capture by Metal‐Organic Frameworks

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Metal‐organic frameworks (MOFs) hold significant potential for capturing benzene from air emissions and hydrocarbon mixtures in liquid phases. This capability stems from their precisely engineered structures, versatile chemistries, and diverse binding interactions.

Gamma ray production in inelastic scattering of neutrons produced by cosmic muons in $^{56}$Fe

open access: yes, 2010
We report on the study of the intensities of several gamma lines emitted after the inelastic scattering of neutrons in $^{56}$Fe. Neutrons were produced by cosmic muons passing the 20t massive iron cube placed at the Earth's surface and used as a passive

Testing lorentz and CPT invariance with ultracold neutrons [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
In this paper we investigate, within the standard model extension framework, the influence of Lorentz- and CPT-violating terms on gravitational quantum states of ultracold neutrons.

Magnetic Control of Chiral Hybridized Phonon Magnetic Moments in Ferrimagnets Fe2‐xZnxMo3O8

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Helicity‐resolved magneto‐Raman spectroscopy reveals magnetic control of chiral phonon magnetic moments in polar ferrimagnet (ZnxFe2−xMo3O₈). Large spontaneous zero‐field phonon splittings, selective phonon–magnon coupling, and asymmetric Zeeman responses demonstrate that phonon chirality is governed by magnon‐phonon coupling and magnetization.

Single Crystal Diffuse Neutron Scattering

open access: yesQuantum Beam Science, 2018
Diffuse neutron scattering has become a valuable tool for investigating local structure in materials ranging from organic molecular crystals containing only light atoms to piezo-ceramics that frequently contain heavy elements.

A Rate Theory Model of Radiation-Induced Swelling in an Austenitic Stainless Steel

open access: yesJournal of Nuclear Engineering, 2021
Many rate theory models of cavity (void) swelling have been published over the past 50 years, all having the same, or similar, structures. A rigorous validation of the models has not been possible because of the dearth of information concerning the ...

Bio‐Inspired Molecular Events in Poly(Ionic Liquids)

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Originating from dipolar and polar inter‐ and intra‐chain interactions of the building blocks, the topologies and morphologies of poly(ionic liquids) (PIL) govern their nano‐ and micro‐processibility. Modulating the interactions of cation‐anion pairs with aliphatic dipolar components enables the tunability of properties, facilitated by “bottom‐up ...

Proton- and Neutron-Induced SEU Cross-Section Modeling and Simulation: A Unified Analytical Approach

open access: yesRadiation
A new physics-based compact model, which makes it possible to simulate in a unified way the neutrons and protons of cosmic ray-induced SEU cross-sections, including the effects from nuclear reaction products and from direct ionization by low-energy ...

Neutron therapy of cancer [PDF]

open access: yes, 1969
Reports relate applications of neutrons to the problem of cancer therapy. The biochemical and biophysical aspects of fast-neutron therapy, neutron-capture and neutron-conversion therapy with intermediate-range neutrons are presented.
