Journal of Cutaneous Pathology, 1975

PIGMENTED NEVUS OF THE FINGERNAIL MATRIX

A.M.A. Archives of Dermatology and Syphilology, 1952
PIGMENTED bands of the fingernails are occasionally seen by the dermatologist, but the lesion must be rare since only three cases occurring in white persons have been reported in the literature. Two cases have also been reported in Negroes, although it would appear that this phenomenon is not uncommon among them.

The melanocytic (pigmented) nevus

Journal of Chronic Diseases, 1957
Abstract The term “melanocytic nevus” is suggested as more satisfactory than the designation pigmented nevus or common “mole” because the lesion is made up of melanocytes. This name will differentiate it from pigmented spots of other cellular constituents with which it is often confused.
