Building a Bridge to New Antibiotics [PDF]

open access: yesACS Chemical Biology, 2006
Gram-positive bacteria modify their peptidoglycan layers with teichoic acid polymers via a highly conserved disaccharide bridge. Inhibition of the biosynthesis of this bridge is a potential antibiotic strategy that can be explored now that purified versions of the enzymes TagA and TagB and their substrates are accessible for the first time.

Assessing Cognitive Functioning in Children With Brain Tumors: Interaction of Neighborhood Social Determinants of Health and Neurological Risk

open access: yesPediatric Blood &Cancer, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background This study investigated how neighborhood‐level social determinants of health (SDOH), including redlining and neurological risk, interact to influence cognitive outcomes in children treated for brain tumors (CTBT). Methods A retrospective chart review of 161 CTBT aged 5–17 was conducted.

PRINCIPLE OF ESTIMATION ANNUAL RADON EEC IN BUILDING BY RESULTS OF SHORT-TERM MEASUREMENTS

open access: yesРадиационная гигиена, 2016
The problem of reliable estimation of annual radon concentration in the new buildings by results of short-term measurements is still actual. The task is to determine the relevant real values of the coefficient of temporal variations of radon. To this end,

Neuroimaging through Sonolucent Cranioplasty: A Systematic Scoping Review Protocol

open access: yesMethods and Protocols, 2022
Cranioplasty is a neurosurgical procedure in which the skull bone is repaired after craniectomy. Recently, studies have suggested that sonolucent synthetic materials are safe and useful for cranioplasty.

Efficient Multistriding of Large Non-deterministic Finite State Automata for Deep Packet Inspection [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Multistride automata speed up input matching because each multistriding transformation halves the size of the input string, leading to a potential 2x speedup.

Revealing the structure of land plant photosystem II: the journey from negative‐stain EM to cryo‐EM

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Advances in cryo‐EM have revealed the detailed structure of Photosystem II, a key protein complex driving photosynthesis. This review traces the journey from early low‐resolution images to high‐resolution models, highlighting how these discoveries deepen our understanding of light harvesting and energy conversion in plants.

Investigations into the assembly behaviour of a 'rigidified': P-carboxylatocalix[4]arene [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
The p-carboxylatocalix[4]arenes have been shown to be versatile supramolecular building blocks capable of forming a range of bi-layers, capsules and nanoscale tubules in the solid state.

Mapping the evolution of mitochondrial complex I through structural variation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Respiratory complex I (CI) is crucial for bioenergetic metabolism in many prokaryotes and eukaryotes. It is composed of a conserved set of core subunits and additional accessory subunits that vary depending on the organism. Here, we categorize CI subunits from available structures to map the evolution of CI across eukaryotes. Respiratory complex I (CI)
