Mycobacterial cell division arrest and smooth‐to‐rough envelope transition using CRISPRi‐mediated genetic repression systems

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
CRISPRI‐mediated gene silencing and phenotypic exploration in nontuberculous mycobacteria. In this Research Protocol, we describe approaches to control, monitor, and quantitatively assess CRISPRI‐mediated gene silencing in M. smegmatis and M. abscessus model organisms.

Laetilia coccidivora (Comstock, 1879) preying on Coccus pseudomagnoliarum (Kuwana, 1914) in Mexico, first record of Association prey-predator host plant (Lepidoptera: Pyraloidea)

open access: yesSHILAP, 2022
The association between the entomophagous Lepidoptera Laetilia coccidivora (Comstock, 1879) is recorded for the first time with the species of Coccoidea Coccus pseudomagnoliarum (Kuwana, 1914).

Screening and epitope characterization of Nidogen‐2‐specific nanobodies

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Camel immunization and phage display were employed to generate high‐affinity VHH nanobodies against Nidogen‐2. After library construction, biopanning, ELISA screening, sequencing, and recombinant expression, selected nanobodies were purified and characterized, leading to the preliminary exploration of a nanobody‐based sandwich ELISA for specific ...

Spiroxys contortus (Rudolphi, 1819) and Hedruris orestiae (Moniez, 1889) in Argentine turtles [PDF]

open access: yesCheck List, 2016
Knowledge of parasites in turtles is scarce, particularly with regard to freshwater turtles of South America. Here, we describe the association of Spiroxys contortus (Rudolphi, 1819)in Phrynops hilarii (Duméril & Bibron, 1835) and S.

\u3ci\u3eMicroctonus Pachylobii\u3c/i\u3e (Hymenoptera: Braconidae): New Host Record From \u3ci\u3eHylobius Radicis\u3c/i\u3e (Coleoptera: Curculionidae), and Additional Notes on Its Biology [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
The endoparasite Microctonus pachylobii was discovered parasitizing a new weevil host, Hylobius radicis. Thirteen of the 154 H. radicis adults collected were parasitized (8.5%).

Long‐term hippocampal alterations and cognitive impairment in a murine model of surgical sepsis

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Using a mouse model of surgical sepsis, we tested long‐term memory and analyzed the transcriptome of single cells isolated from the hippocampus. Survivor mice showed worse memory, loss of certain brain cell subpopulations, and abnormal immune cell activity—suggesting that post‐sepsis brain alterations may be linked to cognitive deficits.

Gargaphia paula (Heteroptera: Tingidae): first host plant record, new geographic data and distribution summary. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Gargaphia paula Drake, 1939 is a neotropical species, which according to the literature, occurs in Brazil, Panama and Peru. Here we present 6 species of Arachis (Fabaceae) as the first host plant records, as well as two new country records, Costa Rica ...

Molecular dynamics simulations of positively selected codons in FcγRI reveal novel biochemical binding properties

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Evolutionary analysis across 32 placental mammals identified positive selection at residues H148 and W149 in the immune receptor FcγR1. Ancestral reconstruction combined with molecular dynamics simulations reveals how these mutations may influence receptor structure and dynamics, providing insight into the evolution of antibody recognition and immune ...
