Anti‐Slip Material‐Based Strategies and Approaches

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
This review highlights the principle mechanisms of slipping at the microscale, linking contact mechanics with a friction behavior model for surface interfaces. Main strategies to develop anti‐slip properties to the surfaces are discussed alongside standardized testing approaches.

Improving the Robustness of Visual Teach‐and‐Repeat Navigation Using Drift Error Correction and Event‐Based Vision for Low‐Light Environments

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
Visual teach‐and‐repeat (VTR) navigation allows robots to learn and follow routes without building a full metric map. We show that navigation accuracy for VTR can be improved by integrating a topological map with error‐drift correction based on stereo vision.

Biophilic urbanism: a case study on Singapore

open access: yes, 2014
This paper outlines the characteristics of an emerging new planning paradigm called biophilic urbanism by detailing a case study of Singapore, which, over a number of years, has demonstrated how high density does not have to mean reduced natural systems.

New Dimensions of Urban Living

open access: yesThe Scientific Journal of the Observatory of Mediterranean Basin, 2015
It can certainly be asserted that the concept of evolution in the space / time of the city has changed profoundly in the history of the city at a given moment of its evolution: or at the time in which the machinery and, with it, the concept of velocity has entered the urban panorama.

Microbial Contribution to Soiling and Its Impact on Photovoltaic Module Soiling in Arid Zones of the Atacama Desert

open access: yesAdvanced Sustainable Systems, EarlyView.
Microorganisms colonizing photovoltaic surfaces in the Atacama desert form biofilms that enhance particle adhesion and reduce energy yield. This study identifies UV‐resistant bacteria and carotenoid‐producing strains that interfere with PV performance.
