History and Legacy of Andean Research in Nuñoa, Peru

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Human Biology, Volume 37, Issue 6, June 2025.
ABSTRACT The high‐altitude town and associated political district of Nuñoa, Peru, has served as an anthropological field research site for more than 60 years. The earliest studies were initiated by Paul T. Baker and his students from Penn State University in 1962.

Correlations and Flow of Information between The New York Times and Stock Markets [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
We use Random Matrix Theory (RMT) and information theory to analyze the correlations and flow of information between 64,939 news from The New York Times and 40 world financial indices during 10 months along the period 2015-2016. The set of news was quantified and transformed into daily polarity time series using tools from sentiment analysis.

Detecting and Learning Out-of-Distribution Data in the Open world: Algorithm and Theory [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2023
This thesis makes considerable contributions to the realm of machine learning, specifically in the context of open-world scenarios where systems face previously unseen data and contexts. Traditional machine learning models are usually trained and tested within a fixed and known set of classes, a condition known as the closed-world setting.

First report of anthelmintic resistance in Haemonchus contortus in alpacas in Australia [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
BACKGROUND: Parasitic nematodes can cause substantial clinical and subclinical problems in alpacas and anthelmintics are regularly used to control parasitic nematodes in alpacas.

Rational Design of Single‐Domain Antibodies Targeting the Central Nervous System Neurite Outgrowth Inhibitor Nogo‐A

open access: yesApplied Research, Volume 4, Issue 3, June 2025.
The development of a nanobody for Nogo‐A, a potent neurite outgrowth inhibitor crucial in multiple sclerosis, is reported using a rational design approach. The nanobody targets the Nogo‐A ectodomain at the S1PR2 receptor‐binding region with submicromolar KD.

Embodied Multi-Modal Agent trained by an LLM from a Parallel TextWorld [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2023
While large language models (LLMs) excel in a simulated world of texts, they struggle to interact with the more realistic world without perceptions of other modalities such as visual or audio signals. Although vision-language models (VLMs) integrate LLM modules (1) aligned with static image features, and (2) may possess prior knowledge of world ...

First clear evidence of Anoplotherium (Mammalia, Artiodactyla) in the Iberian Peninsula: an update on the Iberian anoplotheriines

open access: yesThe Anatomical Record, Volume 308, Issue 6, Page 1783-1800, June 2025.
Abstract Anoplotheriines (Mammalia, Artiodactyla) were enigmatic, medium‐ to large‐sized ungulates that lived in Western Europe from the late middle Eocene to the earliest Oligocene. The unusual dental and postcranial specializations of these Paleogene mammals have no equivalent in other Cenozoic or contemporaneous artiodactyls on Holarctic landmasses.

Combined sanger and ngs sequence analysis of the myostatin gene (mstn) in the Camelus dromedarius species [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Different mutations have been identified in the myostatin gene (MSTN), some of which are responsible for protein inactivation and double muscling phenotype in mammals.

Derivatives of MOPS: promising scaffolds for SARS coronaviruses Macro domain‐targeted inhibition

open access: yesThe FEBS Journal, Volume 292, Issue 11, Page 2865-2881, June 2025.
The SARS‐CoV/CoV‐2 genome encodes non‐structural protein 3, which contains a ‘Macro domain’. This protein domain exhibits antagonistic activity against interferon signaling, which disrupts the host innate immune response and can thus mediate viral escape, highlighting its therapeutic potential.

The Quest for Antibodies and Other Acquired Immune Receptors: A Historical Perspective

open access: yesInternational Journal of Immunogenetics, Volume 52, Issue 3, Page 125-134, June 2025.
ABSTRACT The diversity of antibody molecules has for decades been an unsolved enigma that has attracted wide interest among biologists. Parallel to the accumulation of experimental evidence, progress in antibody research was also driven by the theoretical debate that played a particularly prominent role, at least until the entry of molecular biology ...
