A Newmark-based method for the stability of columns
Computers and Structures, 1999Abstract Based on the well-known Newmark method for the solution of stability problems, a new method for solving strut overall buckling problems, based on the Picard iteration technique for the solution of differential equations, is developed. The method is easily programmed, and has the advantages of simplicity and speed of convergence.

Combination of Newmark method and natural element method for elastodynamics
Journal of the Chinese Institute of Engineers, Transactions of the Chinese Institute of Engineers,Series A/Chung-kuo Kung Ch'eng Hsuch K'an, 2012The natural element method (NEM) is a meshless method. The trial and test functions of the NEM are constructed using natural neighbor interpolations which are based on the Voronoi tessellation of a set of nodes. The NEM interpolation is linear between adjacent nodes on the boundary of the convex hull, which makes imposition of essential boundary ...

Explicit Newmark-FDTD Method Based on Maxwell’s Equation
2020 IEEE International Conference on Computational Electromagnetics (ICCEM), 2020In this paper, we employ Newmark method to discretize the time differential term of Maxwell equation, and apply the power series expansion method to solve the coefficient matrix explicitly. Eventually, a large time step can be used in the Newmark-FDTD method and we can find the solution explicitly without incurring any instability.

An alpha modification of Newmark's method
International Journal for Numerical Methods in Engineering, 1980AbstractThis paper discusses the Bossak–Newmark algorithm, which is an extension of the well‐known Newmark algorithm1 for the numerical integration of the equations of discretized structural dynamics problems. The extra parameter introduced here enables the method (when used on the test equation ẍ = −ω2x) to be simultaneously second order ...

Vibration of plane trusses by the Newmark method
Computers & Structures, 1990Abstract The determination of the vibration of a plane truss by the Newmark numerical method is presented. This method is an alternative approach based on manual computation for design use, which is a classical discrete method using elastic weights and a tabular procedure.

Stability properties of the newmark, Houbolt and Wilson theta methods
International Journal of Rock Mechanics and Mining Sciences & Geomechanics Abstracts, 1980AbstractThis paper analysis the stability of several methods for obtaining numerical solutions of second‐order ordinary differential equations. The methods are popular in structural and geotechnical engineering applications and are direct, that is they do not require the transformation of the second‐order equation into a first‐order system.

An Uncoupling Strategy in the Newmark Method for Dynamic Problems
2017When the semidiscrete formulation of the finite element method (FEM) is employed in traditional elastodynamic problems, a system of ordinary differential equations (ODEs) is obtained. The present paper focuses on the development of a numerical strategy to decouple the resulting system by means of the implicit unconditionally stable Newmark method ...
