Abstract When Scholars speak of framing, those not steeped in the jargon may recall that builders speak of framing a house and photographers of framing their subjects. Each offers a way to explain our use of the word. Like the framing of a house, a news frame creates a structure on which other elements are built.

The traction frame illustrated was devised for a dispensary patient with acute hip-joint disease whose treatment it was necessary to conduct in a dirty and ill-ventilated home. The child needed traction and fresh air, and by use of the frame was enabled to have both.
