Numerical study of the shielding properties of a ferrofluid taking into account magnitophoresis and particle interaction

open access: yesMathematical Modelling and Analysis, 2022
Shielding properties of a cylindrical thick-walled ferrofluid layer that protects against externally applied uniform magnetic fields are numerically investigated.

ENHANCING NONLINEAR EQUATION SOLUTIONS THROUGH THE COMBINATION OF VARIANT NEWTON’S AND HALLEY’S METHODS

open access: yesScience Journal of University of Zakho
This work presents a new iterative method for solving single-variable nonlinear equations. The method achieves ninth-order convergence with just three derivative evaluations per step, offering both accuracy and lower computational cost.

Mathematical Models in Newton’s Principia: A New View of the “Newtonian Style” [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
In this essay I argue against Bernard I. Cohen’s influential account of Newton’s methodology in the Principia: the “Newtonian Style”. The crux of Cohen’s account is the successive adaptation of “mental constructs” through comparisons with nature.

Attracting orbits in Newton’s method

open access: yes, 1986
It is well known that the dynamical system generated by Newton’s Method applied to a real polynomial with all of its roots real has no periodic attractors other than the fixed points at the roots of the polynomial. This paper studies the effect on Newton’

CD47 promotes mitogen‐activated protein kinase and epithelial‐to‐mesenchymal transition molecular programs to drive prometastatic phenotypes in non‐small cell lung cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Beyond its role in immune evasion, this study identified that CD47 drives tumor‐intrinsic signaling in non‐small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Transcriptomic profiling and functional studies revealed that CD47 regulates cell adhesion, migration, and metastasis through an ERK–EMT signaling axis.

Absolute, true and mathematical time in Newton’s Principia [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
I discuss the three distinctions “absolute and relative”, “true and apparent”, and “mathematical and common”, for the specific case of time in Newton’s Principia. I argue that all three distinctions are needed for the project of the Principia and can be

Does Long‐Term Lower Extremity Strength Training in Adults With Knee Osteoarthritis and Varus Alignment Reduce Knee Joint Loading During Gait?

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, EarlyView.
Objective We examined whether 18 months of strength training in individuals with knee varus alignment and medial tibiofemoral osteoarthritis (OA) reduced knee joint loads during walking compared to an attention control group. Methods This study was a secondary analysis of a randomized clinical trial that compared the effects of strength training to a ...

The development of Newton’s method by enhancing the starting point

open access: yesInternational Journal of Trends in Mathematics Education Research, 2023
In general, nonlinear problems cannot be solved analytically. A special theory or method is needed to simplify calculations. Many problems that are too complex, an exact solution is needed to support numerical solution.

Testing Universal Gravitation in the Laboratory, or the Significance of Research on the mean Density of the Earth and Big G, 1798-1898: Changing Pursuits and long-term methodological-experimental Continuity [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
This paper seeks to provide a historically well-informed analysis of an important post-Newtonian area of research in experimental physics between 1798 and 1898, namely the determination of the mean density of the earth and, by the end of the nineteenth ...

Obesity Subtypes and Longitudinal Trajectories of Function Over Seven Years of Follow‐Up: Data From the Multicenter Osteoarthritis Study

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, EarlyView.
Objective Obesity, defined by body mass index (BMI) ≥30 kg/m2, is a risk factor for functional limitations in people with knee osteoarthritis (OA). However, function varies among such individuals. Our objective was to evaluate the implications of obesity subtypes on longitudinal patterns of physical functioning in people with or at risk for knee OA ...
