Poroelastic Bulk Controls on Shear Localization in Fault Gouge During Earthquake Rupture: Insights From a Hybrid Numerical Framework

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Solid Earth, Volume 131, Issue 3, March 2026.
Abstract Seismic ruptures that extend over kilometers along faults originate in shear zones only millimeters thick. We present a hybrid numerical framework coupling the spectral boundary integral method (SBIM) for the poroelastic bulk with a staggered‐grid finite difference method (FDM) for the fault gouge.

Model‐Based Interpretation of Solute Exports and Carbon Partitioning During Shale Weathering in a Mountainous Hillslope

open access: yesWater Resources Research, Volume 62, Issue 3, March 2026.
Abstract The weathering of sedimentary rocks in high‐elevation catchments influences freshwater quality and the global carbon cycle. While individual biogeochemical mechanisms involved in this process are relatively well understood, quantifying their contributions to solute export and carbon fluxes under natural, transient conditions remains ...

Beyond Normality: Gain‐Probability Analysis for Symmetric Scale Mixture of Normal Distributions

open access: yesAustralian &New Zealand Journal of Statistics, Volume 68, Issue 1, March 2026.
ABSTRACT Gain‐Probability (G‐P) analysis quantifies the probability that a randomly selected individual from one group scores higher or lower than an individual from another group, by varying magnitudes. While G‐P methods have been developed under normality and various skewed distributions, symmetric heavy‐tailed settings remain largely unexplored ...

Historical Development of the Newton–Raphson Method

open access: yesSIAM Review, 1995
Accounts, some of which had been published previously, on the iterative algorithm called Newton's method, are assembled into a readily accessible whole, including instructive excerpts from original sources: Viète (who influenced Newton); the secant method in Newton's `Waste Book'; several letters and other writings by Newton; Raphson's book on ...

Modeling and Parameter Extraction of PV Cell Using Single- and Two-Diode Model

open access: yesInternational Journal of Energetica, 2017
Photovoltaic modules operate under a large range of conditions. This combined with the fact that manufacturers provide electrical parameters at specific conditions (STC).

NUMERICAL ANALYSIS OF THE STRESS-STRAIN STATE OF THE MEMBRANE SHELL WITH ACCOUNT OF GEOMETRICAL NON-LINEARITY

open access: yesStructural Mechanics of Engineering Constructions and Buildings, 2012
The numerical procedures and results of analysis of rectangular membranes are presented. For the solution of the nonlinear problem the finite difference energy method and Newton-Raphson method are used.
