Agitation of viscous Newtonian and non‐Newtonian fluids

AIChE Journal, 1961
AbstractViscous fluids are frequently agitated by multiple impellers and in vessels only slightly larger than the impeller. This paper presents data for both Newtonian and non‐Newtonian fluids agitated under such conditions. The large decreases in power requirements (at a given level of mixing rate in the non‐Newtonian system) which are possible by use

Quasi-Newtonian Fluids

2016
Experimental observations show that the viscosity, as measured by viscosimeters, is constant for some fluids as water or honey, that are called Newtonian fluids (see Sect. 1.6, p. 21).

Hydrodynamics of Non-Newtonian Fluids

Nature, 1947
The classical theory of the hydrodynamics of viscous fluids depends on the assumption of a particular law governing the relations between the components of stress in a fluid and those of the strain-velocity. This assumption limits its applicability to Newtonian fluids.

Particle-fluid heat/mass transfer: Newtonian and non-Newtonian fluids

Wärme- und Stoffübertragung, 1992
A new model based on the boundary layer analysis is developed for particle-fluid heat/mass transfer. The proposed model enables a unified consideration of spheres in granular beds as well as isolated spheres. Comparison of results with data for Newtonian and non-Newtonian fluids indicates that the proposed model provides a good prediction of particle ...

Magnetohydrodynamics Mixed Convection in a Lid-Driven Cavity Having a Corrugated Bottom Wall and Filled With a Non-Newtonian Power-Law Fluid Under the Influence of an Inclined Magnetic Field

Journal of Thermal Science and Engineering Apllications, 2016
In this study, the problem of magnetohydrodynamics (MHD) mixed convection of lid-driven cavity with a triangular-wave shaped corrugated bottom wall filled with a non-Newtonian power-law fluid is numerically studied.

Newtonian fluid mechanics

1997
The previous chapter has shown how plant flowsheets can be constructed and analysed, and how the viability of a project approximately can be costed. In the flowsheets discussed in Chapter 1, no account was made of how food material moves from one plant unit to another.

Experimental determination of the shear rate in a stirred tank with a non-newtonian fluid: Carbopol

, 2013
The local shear rate generated in a cylindrical tank equipped with a Rushton turbine was investigated using particle image velocimetry in a shear-thinning fluid (Carbopol).

Dynamic wetting with viscous Newtonian and non-Newtonian fluids

Journal of Physics: Condensed Matter, 2009
We examine various aspects of dynamic wetting with viscous Newtonian and non-Newtonian fluids. Rather than concentrating on the mechanisms that relieve the classic contact line stress singularity, we focus on the behavior in the wedge flow near the contact line which has the dominant influence on wetting with these fluids.

ON THE NON-NEWTONIAN INCOMPRESSIBLE FLUIDS

Mathematical Models and Methods in Applied Sciences, 1993
The Navier-Stokes equations can be included as a special case into the class of non-Newtonian incompressible fluids with the nonlinear stress tensor τ=τ(e), the components of which satisfy the p-growth condition. Measure-valued solutions already exist for p>2n/(n+2).

Agitation of non‐Newtonian fluids

AIChE Journal, 1957
AbstractSince the shear rate of a non‐Newtonian fluid is of importance in fixing the rheological or viscometric behavior of such a material, the present study has been concerned with the development of a general relationship between impeller speed and the shear rate of the fluid. The resulting relationship was then used to interpret and correlate power‐
