Competition between decay and dissociation of core-excited OCS studied by X-ray scattering

open access: yes, 1999
We show the first evidence of dissociation during resonant inelastic soft X-ray scattering. Carbon and oxygen K-shell and sulfur L-shell resonant and non-resonant X-ray emission spectra were measured using monochromatic synchrotron radiation for ...

Evidence for short range orbital order in paramagnetic insulating (Al,V)_2O_3

open access: yes, 2001
The local structure of (Al_0.06V_0.94)_2O_3 in the paramagnetic insulating (PI) and antiferromagnetically ordered insulating (AFI) phase has been investigated using hard and soft x-ray absorption techniques.

Influence of bond defects on coiling of graphite

open access: yesScience and Technology of Advanced Materials, 2006
The effect of annealing at 1400 °C in argon on the bond structure of graphite ball milled for 100 h at 400 rpm in polar (water) and in non-polar (n-dodecane) liquids was investigated primarily by near-edge X-ray absorption fine structure spectroscopy ...

Probing molecular orientation of donors and acceptors in all-polymer blend films by near-edge x-ray absorption fine structure spectroscopy

open access: yesJPhys Materials
The molecular orientation is crucial for the efficiency of organic solar cells. A face-on orientation, in which the $\pi - \pi $ stacking direction is oriented perpendicular to the substrate, is typically preferred because it enhances vertical charge ...

Quasi-freestanding and single-atom thick layer of hexagonal boron nitride as a substrate for graphene synthesis

open access: yes, 2010
We demonstrate that freeing a single-atom thick layer of hexagonal boron nitride (hbn) from tight chemical bonding to a Ni(111) thin film grown on a W(110) substrate can be achieved by intercalation of Au atoms into the interface.

Synthesis and NEXAFS and XPS Characterization of Pyrochlore-Type Bi1.865Co1/2Fe1/2Ta2O9+Δ

open access: yesChemistry
A cubic pyrochlore with the composition Bi1.865Co1/2Fe1/2Ta2O9+Δ (space group Fd-3m, a = 10.5013(8) Å) was synthesized from oxide precursors using solid-phase reactions.

NEXAFS and XPS Studies of Co Doped Bismuth Magnesium Tantalate Pyrochlores

open access: yesChemistry
Co doped bismuth magnesium tantalate with a pyrochlore structure (sp. gr. Fd-3m) was synthesized for the first time using the standard ceramic method. Single phase Bi2Mg1−xCoxTa2O9 samples were found to be formed when x < 0.7 in the X-ray phase analysis.
