ABSTRACT Irrigation scheduling is crucial for ensuring precise water delivery to crops. However, in many sub‐Saharan African irrigation schemes, water is applied without considering crop water needs, resulting in low crop water productivity and low yields. Solar‐powered irrigation systems can automatically meet these needs by utilizing solar radiation,

Assessing environmental and management factors that drive soybean yield gaps in Brazil
Abstract Brazil is the world's largest producer and exporter of soybeans (Glycine max L. Merr.). Assessing yield gaps (Yg) is essential for improving resource use efficiency and guiding farmers’ management strategies. The objective of this study was to estimate soybean yield potential (Yp), water‐limited yields (Yw), and Yg based on water and ...

ABSTRACT The Holocene history of Australia's climate is surprisingly poorly understood. This is, in part, because of the relatively weak forcing of Holocene climate versus that of the late Pleistocene. However, it is commonly suggested that eastern Australia dried during the mid‐ to late‐Holocene and that this was in response to increased activity in ...

Climate change impacts to upwelling and shallow reef nutrient sources across an oceanic archipelago
Abstract Upwelling delivers key nutritional and energetic subsidies to coral reef communities that affect the growth, abundance, and ecology of organisms across trophic levels. However, the cross‐scale oceanographic and atmospheric drivers of localized upwelling on many reefs remain unresolved, limiting our ability to predict how climate change might ...

Abstract Both local and global climate phenomena shape the hydrologic regimes of watersheds. For aridland rivers in the southwestern United States, peak flows occur during two distinct periods: spring snowmelt and summer monsoons. Although discharge (Q) is a primary driver of variation in the production and consumption of instream organic matter, or ...

With global weather patterns becoming more extreme and unpredictable, sourcing reliable irrigation water is vital for improving food security and conserving drinking water in drought‐prone areas. Emerging desalination technologies, which are still in the development phase, could potentially provide large quantities of slightly saline water for ...

Using February sea surface temperature (SST) anomalies in the Atlantic and North Pacific, this study identifies key early predictors for seasonal major hurricane frequency in the North Atlantic. These patterns, derived from Causal‐Effect Networks (CENs), enable accurate forecasts by March, months before the hurricane season peak.
