Ordering reactions in Ni-Al-Mo-Ta and Ni-Al-Mo-W superalloys

The ordered structures formed in two experimental nickel base superalloys have been determined using selected area electron diffraction. Upon quenching from 1300 °C, the alloys contained ordered γ′ precipitates (L12 structure) and the matrix exhibited diffuse intensity at {1 1/2 0} positions, indicating the presence of short range order.

Internal oxidation of NiAl and NiAlSi alloys at the dissociation pressure of NiO

Abstract NiAl and NiAlSi alloys were internally oxidized at temperatures of 1073–1273 K by the Rhines Pack method. For the NiAl alloy, the oxidation process follows parabolic law and the oxidation front was flat with severe integranular oxidation occurring at 1073 K and extensive grain boundary sliding at 1273 K.

Morphological and crystallographic features of ?-?? Ni-Al and Ni-Al-Ti two-phase bicrystals

Severalγ-γ′ Ni-Al and Ni-Al-Ti two-phase bicrystals were made by the solid-state diffusion couple method. Each couple consisted of aγ′-phase single crystal and a pure-Ni polycrystal, and was annealed at 1473 K in an Ar gas atmosphere. Single crystal layers ofγ-phase with uniform thickness always grow into the parentγ′-phase single crystals.

Diamond nucleation experiments on Si wafers, precoated with Ni, Al, and Ni–Al duplex intermediate layers, have been conducted in a microwave plasma enhanced chemical vapor deposition reactor. The diamond nucleation density is dependent on the thickness of the single Ni interlayer and also the ratio of Ni/Al.

Magnetoresistance study in Ni–Al–Ni and Al–Ni–Al tunneling junction systems

Abstract Magnetoresistance (MR) in Ni–Al–Ni and Al–Ni–Al tunneling junction systems have been studied at temperatures between 40 mK and 4 K and in magnetic fields up to 3 T. In Ni–Al–Ni system, the resistance increases with increasing applied magnetic field at low fields. This is a typical anisotropy MR for ferromagnetic Ni wire electrodes.

Martensitic transformation behavior in Ni–Al and Ni–Al–Re melt-spun ribbons

Abstract The martensitic transformation behavior was investigated in rapidly solidified (melt-spun) Ni–(34–37)at%Al and Ni–(32–34)at%Al–2at%Re ribbons. The addition of Re increased the temperature for the formation of Ni 5 Al 3 , hence the martensitic transformations were observed at higher temperatures than those of binary Ni–Al alloys.
