Dynamic Mechanical Loading Modulates Extracellular Vesicle Production and Cargo in Meniscus Fibrochondrocytes

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Interfaces, EarlyView.
Dynamic mechanical loading of outer meniscus fibrochondrocytes increases extracellular vesicle (EV) yield and alters EV composition. When applied to progenitor cells, these mechanically primed EVs modulate the expression of matrix‐related genes.

Insights Into Auditory Cortex Dynamics From Non-invasive Brain Stimulation

open access: yesFrontiers in Neuroscience, 2018
Non-invasive brain stimulation (NIBS) has been widely used as a research tool to modulate cortical excitability of motor as well as non-motor areas, including auditory or language-related areas.

Collision‐Resilient Winged Drones Enabled by Tensegrity Structures

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
Based on structures of birds such as the woodpeck, this article presents the collision‐resilient aerial robot, SWIFT. SWIFT leverages tensegrity structures in the fuselage and wings which allow it to undergo large deformations in a crash, without sustaining damage. Experiments show that SWIFT can reduce impact forces by 70% over conventional structures.

Efficacy of non-invasive brain stimulation in reducing craving in patients with alcohol use disorder: systematic review and meta-analysis

open access: yesBMC Psychiatry
Background Craving plays a central role in reinforcing alcohol use disorder (AUD), and non-invasive brain stimulation (NIBS) has shown potential as a therapeutic intervention in AUD. We aim to evaluate the efficacy and safety following the application of

Modulation of miR‐23b Wnt/β‐catenin Axis Strengthens Endothelial Barrier Properties

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Early blood‐brain barrier (BBB) disruption contributes to stroke and CNS disease pathology. miR‐23b was identified as a regulator of BBB integrity in brain endothelial cells. Inhibition of miR‐23b enhanced barrier‐associated properties, promoted repair‐related signaling, and reduced BBB leakage in experimental stroke models, supporting further ...

Noninvasive brain stimulation in neurorehabilitation: Local and distant effects for motor recovery

open access: yesFrontiers in Human Neuroscience, 2014
Noninvasive brain stimulation (NIBS) may enhance motor recovery after neurological injury through the causal induction of plasticity processes. Neurological injury, such as stroke, often results in serious long-term physical disabilities, and despite ...

Phase Diagrams and Piezoelectric Properties of Wurtzite Al1−x−yScxGdyN Heterostructural Alloys

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study demonstrates ferroelectricity and piezoelectric properties improvement of quaternary wurtzite Al1−x−yScxGdyN${\rm Al}_{1-x-y}{\rm Sc}_x{\rm Gd}_y{\rm N}$ films, guided by density functional theory calculations. Wurtzite Al1−x−yScxGdyN${\rm Al}_{1-x-y}{\rm Sc}_x{\rm Gd}_y{\rm N}$ films have a high optical bandgap, enhanced piezoelectric ...
