Niche saturation reveals resource partitioning among consumers

Ecology Letters, 2010
Ecology Letters (2010) 13: 338–348 Abstract More diverse communities of consumers typically use more resources, which often is attributed to resource partitioning ...

Niche partitioning in the cestode communities of two elasmobranchs

Oikos, 2004
Several randomization methods have been used to investigate the influence of competitive interactions in shaping parasite community structure. Marine fish parasite communities have often been regarded as unstructured assemblages with little or no resource limitation and, therefore, not prone to competitive influences. In this study,

Competition, Colonization, and Temporal Niche Partitioning

2009
In this chapter, we will explore and compare models in which transient dynamics at one spatial or temporal scale result in long-term coexistence at another. All these models assume that species coexist because there exists at least a brief window in time during which each species has an advantage.

Foraging ecology and niche partitioning in orb-weaving spiders

Oecologia, 1981
Foraging patterns were determined for three orbweaving spiders in several geographical locations varying in percent cover by herbaceous vegetation. Argiope trifasciata was the most common species in early successional habitats, while both Argiope aurantia and Araneus trifolium were more common in wetter, more herbaceous sites.

Biodiversity improves water quality through niche partitioning

Nature, 2011
Excessive nutrient loading of water bodies is a leading cause of water pollution worldwide, and controlling nutrient levels in watersheds is a primary objective of most environmental policy. Over the past two decades, much research has shown that ecosystems with more species are more efficient at removing nutrients from soil and water than are ...

Trophic niche partitioning in symbiotic marine invertebrates

Abstract Fierce competition for food and space underpins coral reefs’ biodiversity - supported by photosymbiotic foundational species. In contrast to other ecosystems, there is scant evidence that competition is mitigated by niche partitioning.
