Investigation of delamination mechanisms during a laser drilling on a cobalt-base superalloy [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Temperatures in the high pressure chamber of aircraft engines are continuously increasing to improve the engine efficiency. As a result, constitutive materials such as cobalt and nickel-base superalloys need to be thermally protected.

Direct Metal Deposition of Graphene–Ti28Nb35.4Zr Matrix Composites With Enhanced Mechanical, Corrosion, and Biocompatibility Properties for Bone Implants

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Graphene nanoplatelet (0.1 wt.%) reinforcement significantly enhances the performance of β Ti‐28Nb‐35.4Zr alloy. Grain refinement, reduced water contact angle, and improved surface characteristics promote osteoblast adhesion and complete surface coverage after 7 days.

In Situ Micromechanical Study of Bimodal γ′–γ″ Precipitate Assemblies in Ni–Cr–Al–Nb Superalloy

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A Ni–Cr–Al–Nb superalloy with a bimodal γ′–γ″ precipitate distribution is developed. Composite precipitate assemblies form through heterogeneous nucleation, effectively impeding dislocation motion. Micropillar compression reveals high strength at room and elevated temperatures, governed by precipitate shearing, with coupled faulting mechanisms ...

TECHNOLOGICAL FEATURES OF PROCESSING NANOCOMPOSITIONS OF CASTING HEAT-RESISTANT ALLOYS FOR AVIATION ENGINES

open access: yesАвіаційно-космічна техніка та технологія, 2019
It is studied the existing aspects of the modification of multicomponent alloys. It is carried out the analytical review of existing ideas about the problem of increasing the corrosion resistance of heat-resistant nickel alloys of the JS group.

Cathodic Cage Plasma Deposition of Nanostructured Cu–Fe–Se Coatings on Poly(methyl Methacrylate)

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Nanostructured Cu–Fe–Se coatings are deposited on PMMA by a modified cathodic cage plasma process, enabling low‐temperature deposition on polymer substrates. A transition from discontinuous to compact morphology is observed with temperature, with optimal properties at 200°C, where improved CuFeSe2‐type bonding, lowest sheet resistance, and favorable ...

Enhancing Bubble Removal in Geometry‐Optimized Electrodes

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
3D‐printed lattice electrodes outperform stochastic foams in alkaline water electrolysis despite 20%–25% lower surface area. Straight flow channels generate Venturi‐like bubble entrainment, suppressing gas accumulation that renders foam interiors electrochemically inactive.

Assessment of wear resistance of tin and tin alloy coatings

open access: yes, 2007
This thesis was submitted for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy and awarded by Brunel University.Tin alloy coatings have traditionally been used as corrosion resistant bamens due to their inert nature and comprehensive coverage, and have seldom been ...

Ab initio simulations of iron-nickel alloys at Earth's core conditions

open access: yes, 2012
We report ab initio density functional theory calculations on iron–nickel (FeNi) alloys at conditions representative of the Earth's inner core. We test different concentrations of Ni, up to ∼39 wt% using ab initio lattice dynamics, and investigate the ...

The strengthening mechanism of a nickel-based alloy after laser shock processing at high temperatures

open access: yesScience and Technology of Advanced Materials, 2013
We investigated the strengthening mechanism of laser shock processing (LSP) at high temperatures in the K417 nickel-based alloy. Using a laser-induced shock wave, residual compressive stresses and nanocrystals with a length of 30–200 nm and a thickness ...
