Evolution, clinical applications, and prospects of nickel-titanium alloys for orthodontic purposes.
Journal of the World Federation of Orthodontists, 2020This review article presents an evolution of the nickel-titanium wires for orthodontics, following their introduction by the pioneering studies of Andreasen.

The structure of porous nickel titanium reinforced by monolithic nickel titanium
Technical Physics Letters, 2006The structure and elemental composition of a composite representing porous nickel titanium reinforced by a monolithic nickel titanium rod (TN-10 alloy) have been studied. The structures of the initial TiNi powder (PN55T45S grade), the porous and monolithic parts of this composite, and the transition regions between these parts have been studied using a

Nickel–titanium: options and challenges
Dental Clinics of North America, 2004The introduction of nickel-titanium (NiTi) as material for endodontic instruments about 15 years ago opened many new perspectives. Many dentists and scientists see a benefit in using NiFi files. Initial problems such as frequent fractures and the uncertainty of the best way to use them have been solved.

Superelastic Nickel-titanium Wires
British Journal of Orthodontics, 1992Superelastic nickel-titanium archwires, unlike conventional wires, are capable of withstanding very large deflections and on returning to their original shape on deactivation will produce more moderate forces. The region over which there is a 'plateau' depends on the deflection and is greater the larger the deflection.

Biocorrosion study of titanium‐nickel alloys
Journal of Oral Rehabilitation, 1996summary The present study provides results of the corrosion behaviour in Hank's physiological solution and some other properties of three Ti‐Ni alloys with 18, 25 and 28–4 wt% Ni, respectively. Results indicate that a‐titanium and Ti2Ni were the two major phases in all three Ti‐Ni alloys.

Anodic Process Kinetics on the Passive Surfaces of Titanium, Nickel, and Titanium‐Nickel Alloys
Journal of The Electrochemical Society, 1978The anodic oxidation kinetics and electrochemical properties of the passive surfaces of Ti, Ni, and Ti‐Ni alloys (0.2–37.5 w/o) in (pH 5.6 and 10.6) solutions with and without redox couples have been investigated by electrochemical methods. Measurements have been made also on single crystals of (n‐type) and (p‐type) with known electrophysical ...

Nickel concentration in the saliva of patients with nickel-titanium orthodontic appliances
American Journal of Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics, 2009The purpose of this study was to examine whether nickel-titanium (Ni-Ti) archwires cause an increase of nickel concentration in the saliva of 18 orthodontic patients to estimate the possible risk of these archwires in patients who have nickel hypersensitivity.Saliva samples were collected before orthodontic treatment, after placement of the bands and ...
