Peroxidases in the genus Nicotiana
Theoretical and Applied Genetics, 1970Leaf peroxidases of 60 Nicotiana species, 19 cultivars, autopolyploids, interspecific hybrids, and amphidiploids have been compared by polyacrylamide gel block electrophoresis. At least 19 peroxidase bands, four cathodic and 15 anodic, were detected in the species which varied from two bands in N. arentsii to 12 bands in N. tabacum.

Sieve plate pores of nicotiana
Journal of Ultrastructure Research, 1969Nicotiana tabacum L. (var. Wisconsin 38) plants were fixed for light and electron microscopy using solutions of glutaraldehyde, acrolein, and formaldehydeglutaraldehyde. The plants were (a) cut before fixation at room temperature or (b) fixed as whole plants at room temperature, or (c) rapidly frozen and transferred to cold fixative. Good fixation was

Genetic instability in somatic hybrids of Nicotiana tabacum and Nicotiana knightiana
Molecular and General Genetics MGG, 1978Somatic hybrids of Nicotiana knightiana (2n=2X=24) and an albino mutant of Nicotiana tabacum (2n=4X=48) were selected after polyethylene glycol induced protoplast fusion. Three lines were selected on the basis of the simultaneous expression of shoot inducibility and green pigmentation, traits originally separated in the parental species.

The biosynthesis of feruloyltyramine in Nicotiana tabacum
Phytochemistry, 1984Abstract The biosynthesis of feruloyltyramine in Nicotiana tabacum Xanthi n.c. leaves is achieved through the action of the enzyme feruloyl-CoA tyramine N -feruloyl-CoA transferase. Its activity is increased 5- to 8-fold following infection by tobacco mosaic virus at 20°.

Transformation in Nicotiana edwardsonii [PDF]
Nicotiana edwardsonii Christie and D.W. Hall (Christie and Hall 1979) obtained by crossing N. clevelandii A. Gray with N. glutinosa L. is vigorous, fertile, and hypersensitive to tobacco mosaic virus (TMV). It possesses wide susceptibility to plant viruses like its N. clevelandii parent but has the vigor and size of its N. glutinosa parent.

Biodiversity of Nicotiana (Solanaceae) [PDF]
This brief synopsis outlines current knowledge of the biodiversity of the genus Nicotiana L., the fifth largest genus in the family Solanaceae. Of the 82 species of Nicotiana currently recognized, most are from the New World (North, Central, and South America), but a significant radiation has occurred in arid-zone Australia (ca. 35 species).

Nicotiana: Züchtungsforschung und Züchtung [Nicotiana - breeding research and breeding]
1986Starting from the description of the structure, number and meiotic behaviour of chromosomes, the evolution of the economically important Nicotiana species is analysed. Flowering, expected fertility, incompatibility and male sterility, seed development, as well as germination, are used as criteria to outline the principles of Nicotiana breeding.
