Predictors of early neonatal mortality in extremely low birth weight infants in a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit over a 10-year period

open access: yesJournal of Pediatric and Neonatal Individualized Medicine, 2020
Background: Early neonatal mortality (ENM) contributes substantially to overall mortality rates. Reliable cause-specific data are valuable; thus, the definition of risk factors provides information on antenatal, perinatal and immediate neonatal ...

Bimetallic Nanoparticles as Cocatalysts for Photocatalytic Hydrogen Production

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Recent developments have introduced bimetallic nanoparticles as effective cocatalysts for photocatalytic systems. This review explores the rapidly expanding research on bimetallic cocatalysts for photocatalytic production of hydrogen, emphasizing the creation of carrier‐selective contacts, localized surface plasmon resonance effects, methodologies for ...

Electrochemical CO2 Reduction on Janus Dual‐Atom Catalysts: Critical Role of Oxygen Coordination and an Effective Descriptor

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Janus dual‐atom catalysts (DACs) with N3O3 hybrid coordination are designed with different combination of metal sites. Compared to normal DACs, most Janus DACs favor CH3OH or CH4 production over CO, driven by enhanced initial CO2 hydrogenation and stronger CO adsorption.

Truncating Variants in RREB1 Cause a Novel RASopathy Syndrome of Congenital Heart Disease, Genitourinary Malformations, and Developmental Delay

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Medical Genetics Part A, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The interstitial 6p microdeletion syndrome is characterized by dysmorphic facies and structural heart, kidney, brain, and musculoskeletal differences. RREB1 haploinsufficiency and consequent abnormal RAS‐MAPK pathway signaling have been proposed as a driver of the disease phenotype; however, apart from a single case report, the phenotype of ...

Supporting parents in taking care of their infants admitted to a neonatal intensive care unit: a prospective cohort pilot study

open access: yesItalian Journal of Pediatrics, 2017
Background Family-Centred Care (FCC) is recognized as an important component of all paediatric care, including neonatal care, although practical clinical guidelines to support this care model are still needed in Italy.

Survivorship of Individuals With Double Heterozygosity for Achondroplasia and Type 2 Collagenopathy

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Medical Genetics Part A, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Historically, double heterozygosity, or a diagnosis of two separate, dominant genetic conditions, was often thought to be lethal in individuals with autosomal dominant skeletal dysplasias. In previously published studies of individuals with dual dysplasia diagnoses of achondroplasia and type 2 collagenopathy, infants died of respiratory ...

Diagnostic Yield of Genome Sequencing Versus Exome Sequencing in Pediatric Patients With Rare Phenotypes: A Systematic Review and Meta‐Analysis

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Medical Genetics Part A, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Rare diseases affect 6% of Western societies and are a leading cause of pediatric mortality. The popularization of Next Generation Sequencing technologies, especially exome sequencing (ES), revolutionized the diagnosis of children with rare disease. Still, most patients face extensive diagnostic odysseys and remain undiagnosed.

Effects of early life NICU stress on the developing gut microbiome.

open access: yesDevelopmental Psychobiology, 2019
Succession of gut microbial community structure for newborns is highly influenced by early life factors. Many preterm infants cared for in the NICU are exposed to parent-infant separation, stress, and pain from medical care procedures. The purpose of the
