Geographical distribution of the Pinnated Bittern (Botaurus pinnatus): Update and seasonal movement pattern

open access: yesIbis, EarlyView.
The Pinnated Bittern Botaurus pinnatus (Ardeidae) is a widely distributed Neotropical wading bird whose distribution and seasonal status remain poorly resolved. Discrepancies among published literature, citizen science records and the range currently assumed by BirdLife International indicate that both its geographical distribution and migratory ...

Sheep and cattle grazing regimes differentially affect ground beetle and ant communities in Mediterranean cork oak woodlands

open access: yesInsect Conservation and Diversity, EarlyView.
Sheep and cattle grazing significantly shape ant and ground beetle species composition in Mediterranean cork oak woodlands, promoting higher diversity by increasing habitat heterogeneity. Ground beetles and ants reflect changes in grazing regimes, with sheep‐grazed areas showing the highest diversity, highlighting their utility in ecosystem monitoring.

Reproductive behaviour of the ocean triggerfish Canthidermis sufflamen (Tetraodontiformes: Balistidae) in the shallow waters of the marine‐protected area of El Hierro Island (Canary Islands)

open access: yesJournal of Fish Biology, EarlyView.
Abstract The abundance of Canthidermis sufflamen has increased worldwide, including around the Canary Islands, due to global ocean warming. The reproductive behaviour of this species was studied within a marine‐protected area (MPA) and its adjacent areas off the island of El Hierro (Canary Islands).

The variability of giraffe skull morphology

open access: yesJournal of Anatomy, EarlyView.
What does giraffe skull shape tell us about their development and evolution? Abstract Giraffe (Giraffa spp.) are among the most unique and charismatic extant animals, largely due to their distinct morphology. The evolutionary and developmental origin of ossicones is a key factor in giraffid biology, yet other features building their characteristic head
