Nature, 1970THE Neolithic mound of Nea Nikomedeia1 lies some 25 km north-west of the mouth of the river Aliakmon, in the Macedonian Plain of Greece. Field evidence suggests that at the time of the Neolithic occupation the low land near the site, drained in the last century, may have been occupied either by a lake or by an arm of the Gulf of Thermai2.

American Journal of Archaeology, 1984Nea Nikomedeia, excavated by Robert J. Rodden in 1961, 1963 and 1964,' is an Early Neolithic settlement on the shore of an estuary near the Bay of Thessaloniki. Separate rectangular pole and mud houses were surrounded, in the earlier phase, by two concentric walls, and in the later phase, by a ditch.
