Application of Multivariate Analysis Techniques for Selecting Soil Physical Quality Indicators: A Case Study in Long‐Term Field Experiments in Apulia (Southern Italy)

open access: yesSoil Science Society of America Journal, Volume 83, Issue 3, Page 707-720, May-June 2019., 2019
Core Ideas Soil physical quality (SPQ) on two long‐term experiments was evaluated. Relationships among five SPQ indicators (BD, PMAC, AC, PAWC and RFC) were evaluated. Two multivariate analysis techniques (PCA, SDA) were applied to select key indicators. PCA and SDA generally identified RFC as a key soil physical indicator.

Torque Vectoring Controls for Multi-architecture Battery Electric Vehicles [PDF]

open access: yes, 2022
This study investigates a method for enhancing Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV) longitudinal and lateral stability in a broad range of conditions. As with the state-of-the-art, a hierarchical control is developed: the upper layer uses vehicle state errors ...

Comparison of alfalfa plants overexpressing glutamine synthetase with those overexpressing sucrose phosphate synthase demonstrates a signaling mechanism integrating carbon and nitrogen metabolism between the leaves and nodules

open access: yesPlant Direct, Volume 3, Issue 1, January 2019., 2019
Abstract Alfalfa, like other legumes, establishes a symbiotic relationship with the soil bacteria, Sinorhizobium meliloti, which results in the formation of the root nodules. Nodules contain the bacteria enclosed in a membrane‐bound vesicle, the symbiosome where it fixes atmospheric N2 and converts it into ammonia using the bacterial enzyme ...

Sustained Co‐Eruptive Increase in Seismic Velocity Below Great Sitkin Volcano Due To Magma Extrusion

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, Volume 51, Issue 15, 16 August 2024.
Abstract Volcanic eruptions carry essential information on the dynamics of volcanic systems. Studies have documented variable eruption styles and eruptive surface deformation. However, co‐eruptive subsurface structural changes remain poorly understood. Here we characterize the seismic velocity changes from July 2019 to July 2023 at Great Sitkin Volcano

Genomic insights into the Acidobacteria reveal strategies for their success in terrestrial environments

open access: yesEnvironmental Microbiology, Volume 20, Issue 3, Page 1041-1063, March 2018., 2018
Summary Members of the phylum Acidobacteria are abundant and ubiquitous across soils. We performed a large‐scale comparative genome analysis spanning subdivisions 1, 3, 4, 6, 8 and 23 (n = 24) with the goal to identify features to help explain their prevalence in soils and understand their ecophysiology.

A thermodynamic motivation for dark energy [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
It is argued that the discovery of cosmic acceleration could have been anticipated on thermodynamic grounds, namely, the generalized second law and the approach to equilibrium at large scale factor. Therefore, the existence of dark energy -or equivalently, some modified gravity theory- should have been expected.

Supplementation of lactobacillus‐fermented rapeseed meal in broiler diet reduces Campylobacter jejuni cecal colonization and limits the l‐tryptophan and l‐histidine biosynthesis pathways

open access: yesJournal of the Science of Food and Agriculture, Volume 104, Issue 9, Page 5474-5485, July 2024.
Abstract BACKGROUND Campylobacter jejuni (C. jejuni), a widely distributed global foodborne pathogen, primarily linked with contaminated chicken meat, poses a significant health risk. Reducing the abundance of this pathogen in poultry meat is challenging but essential.
