Reconstruction of gross avian genome structure, organization and evolution suggests that the chicken lineage most closely resembles the dinosaur avian ancestor. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
BACKGROUND: The availability of multiple avian genome sequence assemblies greatly improves our ability to define overall genome organization and reconstruct evolutionary changes.

Melanin and Neurotransmitter Signalling Genes Are Differentially Co‐Expressed in Growing Feathers of White and Rufous Barn Owls

open access: yesPigment Cell &Melanoma Research, Volume 38, Issue 2, March 2025.
The colouration of the ventral face of barn owls varies from white to rufous, depending on the MC1R (V126I) genotype. This colouration is linked to multiple fitness and behavioural traits. Genes linked to neurotransmitters and synapses are upregulated with melanin genes in a transcriptome of growing feathers from the ventral part of chicks of the ...

Cloning of the Gene for the Thyrotropin β Subunit in the Japanese Crested Ibis, Nipponia nippon [PDF]

open access: yesZoological Science, 2003
We isolated a putative gene for the thyrotropin beta subunit (TSHbeta) from two types of genomic libraries of the Japanese crested ibis, Nipponia nippon. Exon-intron structure was deduced by comparing the determined sequence with those of TSH beta cDNA of other birds.

Evaluation of antimicrobial resistance and virulence characteristics in Escherichia coli and Proteus mirabilis isolates from dead Crested Ibis embryos at the artificial breeding base

open access: yesAvian Research
Bacterial infections of avian embryos can lead to an increase in embryo mortality, and the proliferation of antimicrobial-resistant bacteria aggravates the situation.

Dark grey gazelles Gazella (Cetartiodactyla: Bovidae) in Arabia: Threatened species or domestic pet? [PDF]

open access: yes
True gazelles (genus Gazella) are a prime example of a mammalian group with considerable taxonomic confusion. This includes the descriptions of several dark grey taxa of questionable validity.

Deeply digging the interaction effect in multiple linear regressions using a fractional-power interaction term

open access: yesMethodsX, 2020
In multiple regression Y ~ β0 + β1X1 + β2X2 + β3X1 X2 + ɛ., the interaction term is quantified as the product of X1 and X2. We developed fractional-power interaction regression (FPIR), using βX1M X2N as the interaction term. The rationale of FPIR is that

The genetic consequences of population marginality: A case study in maritime pine

open access: yesDiversity and Distributions, Volume 30, Issue 10, October 2024.
Abstract Aim Marginal tree populations, either those located at the edges of the species' range or in suboptimal environments, are often a valuable genetic resource for biological conservation. However, there is a lack of knowledge about the genetic consequences of population marginality, estimated across entire species' ranges.
