Non‐medical applications of NiTinol

Minimally Invasive Therapy & Allied Technologies, 2004
Shape memory alloys based on the intermetallic system Nickel-Titanium (NiTi or NiTinol) are widely used in various kinds of industries. At present, the most popular market is medical industry, in which NiTinol finds a perfect environment with a narrow temperature specification ranging from room to body temperature.

Tissue reaction to nitinol wire alloy

Oral Surgery, Oral Medicine, Oral Pathology, 1973
Abstract The reaction of tissue to 55-nitinol wire suture placed subcutaneously in forty-five rats was followed for 9 weeks. The tissue reaction was minimal at all time periods. The reparative process was initiated within 1 to 2 weeks and formed a dense, relatively avascular fibrous connective tissue capsule by 5 to 6 weeks, with little change beyond

Nitinol Heat Engines

1975
Thermally-related shape memory properties of certain Nickel-Titanium alloys were first observed at the Naval Ordnance Laboratory in the early 1960’s, and their application to thermomechanical energy conversion systems recognized.(1) The first successful application of these materials to a continuously operating heat engine was demosrated at the ...

Fibronectin modulates osteoblast behavior on Nitinol

Journal of Biomedical Materials Research Part A, 2008
AbstractWe have previously demonstrated that primary rat osteoclasts behave differently when cultured on austenite and martensite Nitinol. In this study, we coated the two phases of Nitinol with plasma fibronectin and studied if this modifies the proliferation and cell cycle of MC3T3‐E1 osteoblasts. The influence of the crystalline structure of Nitinol

The Thermobile Nitinol Engine

SAE Technical Paper Series, 1985
<div class="htmlview paragraph">By using the stress-strain curves associated with Nitinol, both at TO (over its martensitic transition) and TU (under its martensitic transition), the principle of working mechanism for Nitinol Thermobile engine is analyzed.</div> <div class="htmlview paragraph"
