Land Use Influence on the Characteristics of Groundwater Inputs to the Great Bay Estuary, New Hampshire [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
This research examines the sources and factors affecting nutrient-laden groundwater discharge to the Great Bay Estuary. To further understand this relationship, examination of groundwater residence time, a review of historic land uses, and nitrate source

Adaptaquin is selectively toxic to glioma stem cells through disruption of iron and cholesterol metabolism

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Adaptaquin selectively kills glioma stem cells while sparing differentiated brain cells. Transcriptomic and proteomic analyses show Adaptaquin disrupts iron and cholesterol homeostasis, with iron chelation amplifying cytotoxicity via cholesterol depletion, mitochondrial dysfunction, and elevated reactive oxygen species.

Patient‐specific pharmacogenomics demonstrates xCT as predictive therapeutic target in colon cancer with possible implications in tumor connectivity

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study integrates transcriptomic profiling of matched tumor and healthy tissues from 32 colorectal cancer patients with functional validation in patient‐derived organoids, revealing dysregulated metabolic programs driven by overexpressed xCT (SLC7A11) and SLC3A2, identifying an oncogenic cystine/glutamate transporter signature linked to ...

Glyphosate Bioremediation through the Sarcosine Oxidase Pathway Mediated by Lysinibacillus sphaericus in Soils Cultivated with Potatoes

open access: yesAgriculture, 2019
Glyphosate-based herbicides (GBH) use has increased drastically over the last decade. This is true especially for potato crops due to their fast harvest cycle and high market demand.

The effect of cattle slurry in combination with nitrate and the nitrification inhibitor dicyandiamide on in situ nitrous oxide and dinitrogen emissions [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
peer-reviewedA field study was conducted to determine the effect of the nitrification inhibitor dicyandiamide (DCD) on N2O and N2 emissions after cattle slurry (CS) application in the presence of nitrate (NO3) fertiliser on seven different occasions ...

Polydatin ameliorates ovalbumin‐induced asthma in a rat model through NCOA4‐mediated ferroautophagy and ferroptosis pathway

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
In this research, a rat model of asthma was created using OVA, and polydatin served as an intervention. By inhibiting ferroautophagy mediated by NCOA4 and averting ferroptosis, polydatin has been demonstrated to reduce asthma. This work presents new ideas for investigating the mechanism of polydatin's ability to alleviate asthma, in addition to ...

Cis‐unsaturated sphingolipids support growth of sphingoid base‐deficient yeast but impair plasma membrane integrity

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Sphingoid base structures, the sphingolipid backbones, vary among species. We established yeast cells in which the native sphingoid base was replaced with plant‐type bases containing cis or trans double bonds. This is, to our knowledge, the first eukaryotic model mostly composed of sphingolipids containing cis‐unsaturated sphingoid base, providing a ...
