The dielectric properties of clays are studied on the level of individual monolayers and functional double stacks. The material breakdown characteristics and charge storage performance are analyzed. For illustration, a defined charge pattern representing a cuneiform character is produced, written into a microscopic clay tile, referencing the origins of

To inhibit oxidization during nitriding process using the atmospheric-pressure plasma jet, we developed a local evacuation system. By this system, we perform vacuum purge in the treatment atmosphere locally to reduce residual oxygen.

Most matter is nominally frozen in the polar regions or space, and liquid crystal materials are no exception. Consequently, soft actuators, including liquid crystal elastomers (LCEs), are inoperative under such extreme cold in response to stimuli, as their motion relies on mechanical deformation.

Defect Analysis of the β– to γ–Ga2O3 Phase Transition
The role of defects at all the relevant stages of the β$\beta$‐ to γ$\gamma$‐Ga2O3 polymorph transition is investigated using a multi method approach. The positron annihilation spectroscopy based results show that the defect density decreases after the transition, and that changes in defect configuration within the γ phase occur with increasing ...

Effect of Ratio of Nitrogen to Hydrogen on Microstructure and Wear Properties of Plasma Nitrided H13 Steel [PDF]
Aiming at the problem of early fatigue cracks in plasma nitrided H13 steel precision hot forging dies, plasma nitriding process tests were conducted under a nitriding temperature of 520 ℃, a pressure of 250 Pa and different nitrogen to hydrogen ratio ...

Ion-beam nitriding of steels [PDF]
A surface of a steel substrate is nitrided without external heating by exposing it to a beam of nitrogen ions under low pressure, a pressure much lower than that employed for ion-nitriding. An ion source is used instead of a glow discharge. Both of these

From micro to nano scales -recent progress in the characterization of nitrided austenitic stainless steels [PDF]
In the frontier of materials science, understanding of materials has been in multiple scales from macro, micro, to atomic levels. This is attributed to the advanced instrumentations such as SEM, TEM, XPS, XRD, as well as several other spectroscopic and ...

Understanding Decoherence of the Boron Vacancy Center in Hexagonal Boron Nitride
State‐of‐the‐art computations unravel the intricate decoherence dynamics of the boron vacancy center in hexagonal boron nitride across magnetic fields from 0 to 3 T. Five distinct regimes emerge, dominated by nuclear spin interactions, revealing optimal coherence times of 1–20 µs in the 180–350 mT range for isotopically pure samples.

Evaluation of stress-strain behavior of surface treated steels by X-ray diffraction [PDF]
X-ray diffraction assisted four-point bending method (XRDABM) enables to analyze the evolution of surface stress with the strain during bending of specimens. This experimental methodology was used to characterize the stressstrain behavior of two plasma

Optical, electrical, mechanical, and thermal properties of group III nitrides, inclusive of AlN, GaN, InN and their ternary and quaternary alloys, are discussed. The driving force for group III nitride semiconductors is their important applications in optoelectronics, microwave amplifiers, and high voltage power switches.
