Deregulation of Ribosome Biogenesis in Nitrite-Oxidizing Bacteria Leads to Nitrite Accumulation

Environmental Science & Technology, 2023
Nitrite (NO2-) accumulation caused by nitrite-oxidizing bacteria (NOB) inhibition in nitrification is a double-edged sword, i.e., a disaster in aquatic environments but a hope for innovating nitrogen removal technology in wastewater treatment. However, little information is available regarding the molecular mechanism of NOB inhibition at the cellular ...

Developing a mathematical modeling method for determining the potential rates of microbial ammonia oxidation and nitrite oxidation in environmental samples

International Biodeterioration & Biodegradation, 2018
This study report a new method for simultaneously determining microbial ammonia oxidation rate (V a ) and nitrite oxidation rate (V n ) in water and sediment.

A new oxidation system using nitrite oxidants

Research on Chemical Intermediates, 1998
The oxidative reactions using alkyl nitrites (RONO) as oxidant have been developed by Ube Industries, Ltd. The substrates such as CO and/or unsaturated-and/or carbonyl-compounds are oxidized by RONO over the palladium catalyst with no contact of molecular oxygen.

Effect of nitrogen dioxide on nitrite oxidation and nitrite-oxidizing populations in soil

Soil Biology and Biochemistry, 1977
Abstract When nitrogen dioxide was added to soil at a rate equivalent to 51μg Ng −1 soil, the nitrite formed was oxidized logarithmically. The numbers of nitrite-oxidizing microorganisms also increased logarithmically, but the final count was too low to account for the amount of nitrite metabolized. In soil treated with NO 2 at a rate equivalent to

Studies on Nitrite Oxidizing Microorganisms: I. Nitrite Oxidation by Nitrobacter

Soil Science Society of America Journal, 1961
Abstract Quantities of Nitrobacter sufficient for whole cell and enzyme studies have been obtained by cultivation under forced aeration in a soluble mineral medium. That the nitrite oxidase activity of washed cells and extracts is intimately linked to the cytochrome system ...

Nitrite-Nitric Oxide Signaling and Cardioprotection

2017
Cardioprotective strategies to prevent damage to mitochondria in acute myocardial infarction are warranted to reduce lethal myocardial ischemia/reperfusion (I/R) injury. Mitochondrial antagonists in I/R are reactive oxygen species (ROS), deteriorated calcium signaling, permeabilization of the mitochondrial outer membrane (MOM) and deranged ...

Biotransfornation of nitric oxide, nitrite and nitrate

International Archives of Occupational and Environmental Health, 1983
Biotransformation of NO, nitrite and nitrate was investigated in rats and mice in a 15NO inhalation experiment and intraperitoneal injection experiments of 15N-nitrite and 15N-nitrate, and the following results were obtained: (1) Rats were forced to inhale 15NO (145 ppm, 123 minutes) or were given an intraperitoneal injection of 15N-nitrite (2 mg ...

Bifunctional Mn-Doped N-Rich Carbon Dots with Tunable Photoluminescence and Oxidase-Mimetic Activity Enabling Bimodal Ratiometric Colorimetric/Fluorometric Detection of Nitrite.

ACS Applied Materials and Interfaces, 2022
Multimodal detection is a promising paradigm because of its advantages of expanding usage scenarios and improving reliability. However, it is very challenging to design reasonable strategies to achieve the multimodal sensing of targets.

The Lithoautotrophic Nitrite-Oxidizing Bacteria

2005
The lithotrophic nitrite oxidizers are Gram-negative eubacteria that are able to use nitrite as a sole source of energy and CO2 as the main source of carbon. Some strains are able to grow mixotrophically. These organisms are obligate lithoautotrophs with the exception of Nitrobacter, which can grow heterotrophically.
