Hypoxic Nitrite Reduction to Nitric Oxide

2021
Nitric oxide (NO) is a powerful paracrine signaling molecule that plays a critical role in regulating blood vessel tone and vascular homeostasis. Deficiencies in endothelial NO production have been implicated in many cardiovascular and neurodegenerative diseases.

Nitrite controls the release of nitric oxide in Pseudomonas aeruginosa cd1 nitrite reductase

Biochemical and Biophysical Research Communications, 2007
Nitrite reductase (cd1NIR) from Pseudomonas aeruginosa, which catalyses the reduction of nitrite to nitric oxide (NO), contains a c-heme as the electron acceptor and a d1-heme where catalysis occurs. Reduction involves binding of nitrite to the reduced d1-heme, followed by dehydration to yield NO; release of NO and re-reduction of the enzyme close the ...

Oxidation of Nitrite by Peroxynitrous Acid

The Journal of Physical Chemistry A, 2003
The kinetics of the oxidation of nitrite to nitrate by peroxynitrous acid at pH 5.2 is best described by the rate law kobs = kiso + k‘[NO2-] + k‘ ‘[NO2-]2, in which the peroxynitrous acid isomerization rate constant kiso = (1.10 ± 0.05) s-1, k‘ = (3.2 ± 0.1) M-1 s-1, and k‘ ‘ = (4.2 ± 0.3) M-2s-1, at 25 °C.

Oxalate oxidation in molten sodium nitrite

Inorganica Chimica Acta, 1970
Abstract The stoichiometry for the oxidation of oxalate ion by molten sodium nitrite has been determined by both qualitative and quantitative methods. The stoichiometry has been found to be given by the variable equation: aC2O42−+(a+α)NO2−= (a−α) 2 CO2 + 3a+α) 2 CO32− +2αNO + (a−α) 2 N2O A sequence of reactions involving hyponitrite

Oxidation of Nitrites in Mine Waters

Ozone: Science & Engineering, 1994
A major component in the disinfection cost of mine water is the oxidation of microbiologically formed nitrite ion, which can be effectively oxidized by ozone (at close to the stoichiometric ratio of 3.4 mg O3 per mg nitrite–snitrogen. The injudicious use of oxidizing disinfectants in the mine water may be implicated n i nitrite ion buildup.

Anaerobic methane oxidation drives simultaneous nitrite and nitrous oxide removal

Bioresource Technology
Denitrifying anaerobic methane oxidation (DAMO) processes have been proven effective for nitrogen removal while contributing to the sustainable operation of wastewater treatment plants. However, it remains unclear whether DAMO-centric technologies can simultaneously remove nitrous oxide (N2O).
