Nitro .dblharw. aci-nitro tautomerism

The nitromethane⇄aci-nitromethane tautomerism is studied by high-level ab initio methods. The MP2/6-31G * geometry of nitromethane compares well with that determined experimentally. The G1 energy difference between the two tautomers amounts to 14.1 kcal/mol in favor of nitromethane.

This chapter focuses on nitroso compounds. It refers to nitroso compounds as tautomeric with oximes that are thermodynamically more stable. The chapter shares diagrams to reference the bonding. C-nitroso compounds are readily turned to the corresponding oxime if there is a hydrogen-? linked to the nitroso group.
