Nitrogen deposition in Mediterranean forests

Environmental Pollution, 2002
Atmospheric deposition of inorganic nitrogen was studied at two forested sites in the Montseny mountains (northeast Spain), peripheral to the Barcelona conurbation, and at a nearby lowland town, using bulk deposition, wet-only deposition, throughfall, and dry deposition inferred from branch-washes and surrogate surfaces (metacrylate plates).

Depositions of Nitrogen on NiTi Instruments

Journal of Endodontics, 2002
This study was designed to obtain nitrogen-rich layers on the surfaces of endodontic files made of nickel-titanium (NiTi) alloy by chemical vapor deposition. Experimental samples (GT rotary instruments) were deposited by using two different methods.

Diagnostic indicators of elevated nitrogen deposition

Environmental Pollution, 2006
Tissue N content of mosses, which has been shown to be an indicator of enhanced N, was studied at a range of locations dominated either by wet or dry deposited and oxidised and reduced forms of N. Tissue N responded differently to wet and dry deposited N.

Excess nitrogen deposition: Issues for consideration

Environmental Pollution, 1988
This paper briefly reviews some major mechanisms by which deposition of inorganic N compounds from the atmosphere could be damaging forest and natural ecosystems. Twelve issues which needed further discussion or research were identified. These were: has N deposition increased; what is a N-saturated ecosystem; can the time of onset of N saturation be ...

Deposition-mediated phytoremediation of nitrogen oxide emissions

Environmental Pollution, 2022
The growing global population and use of natural resources lead to significant air pollution. Nitrogen oxide emissions is a potential killer threatening human health requiring focus and remediation using vegetation being efficient and cheap. Here we review the mechanisms of removing nitrogen oxides by dry deposition of plants, discussing the principle ...

Calculating nitrogen deposition in Europe

Water, Air, and Soil Pollution, 1989
Nitrogen deposition calculations for Europe were performed by separate models describing the long-range transport of ammonia and oxidized N. A linearized version of a non-linear atmospheric chemistry model was used for calculating oxidized N. Model computations were found to be consistent with the observed spatial pattern of wet nitrate deposition in ...

Acid Rain: Nitrogen Deposition

2012
Air pollution has occurred naturally since the formation of the Earth’s atmosphere; however, the industrial era has resulted in human activities greatly contributing to global atmospheric pollution. One of the more highly publicized and controversial aspects of atmospheric pollution is that of acidic deposition. Acidic materials can be transported long

Global Soil Gross Nitrogen Transformation Under Increasing Nitrogen Deposition

Global Biogeochemical Cycles, 2020
AbstractSoil nitrogen (N) transformations, which regulate soil N availability, are important for ecosystem productivity and other functions. Nitrogen deposition influences soil N transformations, but it remains unclear how soil N transformations, especially microbial N immobilization, change with different N deposition rates. In this study, we compiled

Nitrogen deposition in California forests: A review

Environmental Pollution, 1996
Atmospheric concentrations and deposition of the major nitrogenous (N) compounds and their biological effects in California forests are reviewed. Climatic characteristics of California are summarized in light of their effects on pollutant accumulation and transport.

Atmospheric nitrogen compounds: occurrence, composition and deposition

Science of The Total Environment, 1996
Abstract Traffic in cities and on highways is an important contributor to NO y atmospheric pollution in open areas. In this situation both the concentration and composition of NO y compounds show a wide variation and are dependent on meteorological and atmospheric chemical conditions. The proportion of NO z compounds (HNO 3 + nitrate + PAN + PPN +
