Respiratory responses to nitrogen dioxide inhalation subtitle: Nitrogen dioxide

Journal of Environmental Science and Health . Part A: Environmental Science and Engineering, 1984
An investigation was made of the effects of nitrogen dioxide (NO/sub 2/), a combustion-related pollutant reported to depress host resistance to infection, on respiratory patterns in the mouse. Control mice were exposed to filtered air for 3 days; experimental mice were exposed to 5 ppm NO/sub 2/ for the same number of days. After exposure, both control

Personal sampler for nitrogen dioxide

American Industrial Hygiene Association Journal, 1976
A new type of personal sampler for gases in air, originally reported from this laboratory, has been adapted to measurement of NO2. The sampler depends on the transfer of NO2 by diffusion to a triethanolamine coated collector at the sealed end of a tube; the open end of the tube is exposed to the test environment. The devices are accurate, light, simple

Photosynthesis and Nitrogen Fixation in Soybean Exposed to Nitrogen Dioxide and Carbon Dioxide

Journal of Environmental Quality, 1992
Abstract‘Williams‐82’ Soybean [Glycine max (L.) Merr.] plants, at the flowering stage, were exposed to NO2 (0.1 µmol mol−1, 7 h d−1) and CO2 (450 µmol mol−1, 12 h d−1) for 5 d singly and in combination in open‐top field chambers. The rate of photosynthesis (PN), specific root nodule nitrogenase activity (SNA), and leaf N were measured after exposure ...

Toxicity of nitrogen dioxide: an introduction

Toxicology, 1994
Many questions, needed to advance our understanding of the mechanism of injury from high-level NO2, remain unanswered to date. This is partly due to the limited interest in the toxicity of high-level exposures, and partly due to the public pressure and interest to study the effects of low- (environmental) levels.

THE PHOTOIONIZATION OF NITROGEN DIOXIDE

Canadian Journal of Chemistry, 1962
The ionization of nitrogen dioxide by photons has been studied using a photoionization mass spectrometric technique and also by the ordinary electron impact method. The photoionization results show a large variation in the relative ionization efficiency within the energy range 9–14 ev, and help to explain the differences between previously reported ...

Photolysis of nitrogen dioxide

The Journal of Chemical Physics, 1973
Relative quantum yields for the photolysis of NO2 to give NO have been measured at 5 or 10 nm intervals in the range of 295 to 445 nm, and also at several longer wavelengths. The behavior of the quantum yield as a function of photon energy can be separated into three distinct wavelength regions.

Fluorescence of Nitrogen Dioxide

The Journal of Chemical Physics, 1954
The mean lifetime of fluorescence of NO2 vapor was measured at pressures in the range 12 to 0.6 microns by a direct electronic method. A linear dependence of lifetime on pressure was found, and extrapolation to zero pressure gave 44 microseconds for the lifetime in absence of collisions.
