Advancing European Plant Variety Registration: Data‐Driven Insights and Stakeholder Perspectives

open access: yesAgribusiness, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Efficient plant variety registration is crucial for fostering innovation in the European Union, yet the current regulatory framework is complex and faces calls for reform. This study provides data‐driven evidence to inform the ongoing legislative debate by employing a mixed‐methods approach.

DETERMINING SOCIALLY OPTIMAL NITROGEN APPLICATION RATES USING A DELAYED RESPONSE MODEL: THE CASE OF IRRIGATED CORN IN WESTERN KANSAS [PDF]

open access: yes
Nitrate contamination of groundwater is an important problem. The transport of leached nitrate from the root zone to groundwater takes approximately 30 to 60 years. Many previous studies ignore this time lag by assuming instantaneous contamination.

Effect of coupled reduced irrigation and nitrogen fertilizer on soil mite community composition in a wheat field

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, 2019
Groundwater and nitrogen fertilizer overuse severely threatens crop productions; thus, current ecological agriculture requires low irrigation and nitrogen fertilizer inputs.

Incentives for Fertilizer Use in Sub-Saharan Africa: A Review of Empirical Evidence on Fertilizer Response and Profitability [PDF]

open access: yes
This research addresses two questions: Why is fertilizer not yet fulfilling its potential as a major stimulus to agricultural productivity in SSA? What can be done to improve the situation?

Alternative Policy Designs to Help Farmers Select Profitable Conservation Practices

open access: yesAgribusiness, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Voluntary private carbon initiatives (VPCIs) promote the implementation of agricultural conservation practices that mitigate emissions of greenhouse gases (GHGs) via financial incentives to participating farmers. Simultaneously, an array of public policies supports the adoption of conservation practices through technical and financial ...

MOVING FROM UNIFORM TO VARIABLE FERTILIZER RATES ON IOWA CORN: EFFECTS ON RATES AND RETURNS [PDF]

open access: yes
This study develops a model based on the yield potential of various soil types in 12 Iowa counties to estimate the potential value of switching from uniform to variable fertilizer rates.

Cost‐Benefit Analysis of the European Union Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism in Fertilizer Trade

open access: yesAgribusiness, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The carbon border adjustment mechanism (CBAM), launching 2026, will charge EU importers for embedded carbon emissions, aiming to reduce emissions but raising import costs. Shifts in demand following implementation may reduce carbon emissions, but importers will bear the cost of increased prices.

Electron Bridge Enhanced Charge Polarization Enables Efficient and Ultra‐Long Stable Urea Electrosynthesis

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, EarlyView.
An electron bridge strategy is developed to regulate charge polarization in Pd1 and Ni1 dual single‐atom sites, promoting CO2 reduction, nitrate reduction, and C–N coupling simultaneously. The resulting catalyst achieves efficient urea electrosynthesis with high activity and record durability over 1700 h.

Ameliorating the response of slow-releasing nitrogen fertilizer on sustainable maize growth

open access: yesNotulae Botanicae Horti Agrobotanici Cluj-Napoca
The extensive utilization of nitrogen (N) fertilizers within maize cultivation systems has resulted in diminished nitrogen use efficiency (NUE) and contributed to nitrogen pollution on a global scale.

Food Prices and Inflation Expectations in New Zealand

open access: yesAgribusiness, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Food prices are conspicuous, and spending on food constitutes a considerable share of household expenditure. In this study, we use partially identified Bayesian structural vector autoregression models to analyze the effects of food price shocks on core inflation and 1‐ and 5‐year inflation expectations in New Zealand.
