Magnesium‐Based Transient Bioelectronics, Bio‐Optics and Bio‐Scaffolds

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This paper reviews the state of the art and recent advances in magnesium‐based thin‐film, foils, and scaffolds for applications in transient bio‐optics, bioelectronics and tissue engineering. The design principles, fabrication methods, material properties, and integration strategies are discussed in detail.

Symbioses between cyanobacterial communities and feather mosses in boreal forests and consequences for dinitrogen fixation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Feather moss-cyanobacteria associations, although still poorly understood, are recognised as essential for the regulation of nitrogen (N) input into N-limited ecosystems such as boreal forests due to their ability to carry out N2-fixation.

Alleviation of water stress in soybean symbiosis by salicylic acid and methyl jasmonate-activated Bradyrhizobium

open access: yesBMC Plant Biology
Background The use of exogenous compounds with growth-regulatory properties can play an effective part in providing plants with the necessary plastic resources for the synthesis of protective compounds.

Full-Fat Soybean Meals as an Alternative Poultry Feed Ingredient—Feed Processing Methods and Utilization—Review and Perspective

open access: yesAnimals
On a global scale, the poultry industry expands its wings in terms of meat and egg production to the masses. However, this industry itself requires a sustainable and permanent supply of different inputs, one of which is poultry feed and nutrition ...

Si‐Doped Nanocrystalline Diamond as Highly Sensitive Luminescence Thermometer for the Physiological Temperature Range

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
In this work, diamonds with negative charged silicon‐vacancy (SiV−) centers have been designed for use as thermometers in biomedical applications. Multiparametric analysis of the emission characteristics of the SiV− centers provides extraordinary sensitivity for temperature detection in the physiological temperature range.

Bismuth‐Based Photocatalysts for Water Remediation: Design Strategies, Mechanisms, and Challenges

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This review highlights representative design strategies for bismuth‐based semiconductor photocatalysts in solar‐driven water purification. Emphasis is placed on electronic structure regulation, oxygen‐vacancy engineering, and interfacial coupling to enable efficient full‐spectrum light utilization, improved charge separation, and selective oxidation in

Aerobic nitrogen fixation in Azotobacter vinelandii [PDF]

open access: yes, 1977
I ELECTRON DONATION TO NITROGENASEPaper I shows that the hypothesis, that a high ratio of (NADH + NADPH) / (NAD + + NADP + ) is the source of reducing power for nitrogenase in intact A.vinelandii, is invalid.

The effect of water-logging on fixation of nitrogen by soil incubated with straw [PDF]

open access: yes, 1962
When straw was incubated with a calcareous soil under water-logged conditions nitrogen fixation occurred if the gas above the incubation contained oxygen: no detectable fixation occurred if oxygen was excluded.

Effects of high oleic full-fat soybean meal on broiler live performance, carcass and parts yield, and fatty acid composition of breast fillets

open access: yesPoultry Science
: The effects of high oleic oil full-fat (HO-FF) soybean meal (SBM) on broiler meat quality could lead to value-added food products. This experiment evaluated the effects of dietary normal oleic extruded expelled (NO-EE), normal oleic full-fat (NO-FF ...

Structural Guidance in 3D Microgel‐in‐Hydrogel Systems to Improve Chondrogenesis

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
The Anisogel, an anisotropic microgel‐in‐hydrogel system, guides chondrogenic differentiation of human mesenchymal stromal cells (hMSCs) modulated by the alignment and size of anisometric microgels. Chondrogenic markers are upregulated in an in vitro model and guided tissue infiltration is enhanced in a semi‐orthopedic mouse model due to the physico ...
