Identification of genotypic variation for nitrogen response in potato (Solanum tuberosum) under low nitrogen input circumstances

open access: yes, 2009
Nitrogen is an essential nutrient for crop growth. The demand for nitrogen in the potato crop is relatively high. However, in organic farming nitrogen input is rather limited, compared with conventional farming.

Resistance Rapid Heating of Aluminum Coatings in an Extreme High Vacuum–Adequate Atmosphere for Hot Stamping

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The subject of this work is the development of a corrosion‐protective coating on steel sheets for form hardening. Rapid heating in an extreme high vacuum (XHV)‐adequate atmosphere is a useful method to prevent oxidation during alloying of 22MnB5 and aluminum to obtain a metallurgical bonding.

Exploring the genetic factors of nitrogen use efficiency in potato Genetics of Nitrogen Use Efficiency in Potato

open access: yes
Abstract Nitrogen is an essential nutrient for plants, used by farmers to increase the yield of the crops. However, this practice increases greenhouse gases, negatively affecting the environment. Nitrogen Use Efficiency (NUE) is a trait that is beginning to be studied in some model species and in cereals due to its ...

Dielectric Barrier Discharge Plasma Deoxidation of Natively Oxide Layer of Copper Powders in a Fluidized Bed

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This paper presents a novel approach to reducing oxide layers on metal powders using low‐temperature hydrogen dielectric barrier discharge plasmas at atmospheric pressure. Unlike conventional hydrogen‐plasma reductions, the powders do not contact the plasma directly.

Economics of Pre-Plant, Topdress, and Variable Rate Nitrogen Application in Winter Wheat

open access: yes
Past research about the efficiency of nitrogen application in winter wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) based on source and timing has produced inconsistent results. The majority of the literature used data from few locations over short time periods.

Incorporation of Selenium into Sol–Gel‐Derived Bioactive Glass: Influence on Glass Structure, Bioactivity, and its Selective Cytotoxicity

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Selenium was incorporated into a sol–gel‐derived bioactive glass to enable sustained therapeutic ion release. The selenium‐containing glass preserved bioactivity while selectively inducing cytotoxicity in osteosarcoma cells and maintaining osteoblastic viability.

Affecting the Properties of Copper–Graphene Electroconductive Composite by Severe Plastic Deformation

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Copper‐based composites enhanced with carbon feature convenient mechanical properties and favorable electric conductivity. Processing via deformation and thermomechanical treatments can introduce advantageous microstructures further enhancing their performance. Herein, copper–graphene powder‐based composites are directly consolidated via rotary swaging
