Influence of Formulating Factors on Drug Safety of Timed-Release Nitroglycerin Tablets

open access: closedJournal of Pharmaceutical Sciences, 1971
A peroral sandwich model tablet with timed release, containing proxyphylline and nitroglycerin, was developed. One layer of the tablet constituted the rapidly disintegrating and dissolving initial phase; the other, the depot phase, was in the form of an insoluble, indigestible skeleton.

A New Topical Drug Delivery System for Nitroglycerin

open access: closed, 1981
Nitroglycerin has been the agent of choice for the treatment of angina pectoris for over 100 years. In recent years various long-acting preparations have been introduced for the prophylaxis of angina pectoris and most recently for use in the long term management of a patient with left ventricular dysfunction.

[Significance of cognitive processes in drug research in the 19th century--exemplified by nitroglycerin].

open access: closedGesnerus, 1997
The history of the discovery and development of drugs is replete with examples where chance and "serendipity" have resulted in important advances of knowledge. In the case of nitroglycerin it can be shown that what appears to have been a chance discovery was actually the result of a sequence of selective perceptions by, and cognitive processes in ...

Transdermal nitroglycerin prevents nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug gastropathy

European Journal of Pharmacology, 1995
Abstract The application of a transdermal nitroglycerin patch (2–30 μg/3 h/rat) protected, in a dose-dependent manner, the rat gastric mucosa against damage induced by the nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory agent indomethacin (20 mg/kg s.c.).

Pulsed release of nitroglycerin from transdermal drug delivery systems

International Journal of Pharmaceutics, 1999
To achieve a discontinuous drug delivery to the skin a new actively controlled transdermal system has been developed. The system consists of a tube shaped drug reservoir in combination with an electronic circuit and a gas producing cell. A magnetic switch was used to control the onset of the production of hydrogen gas.

Nitroglycerin: New concepts about an old drug

The American Journal of Medicine, 1976
Abstract Increasing evidence has profoundly challenged previously accepted concepts about the actions and clinical uses of nitroglycerin. Traditionally, use of this agent has been contraindicated in patients with acute myocardial infarction because of its hypotensive effects, and it has had no place in the therapeutic armamentarium of heart failure or
