Pulsed release of nitroglycerin from transdermal drug delivery systems

International Journal of Pharmaceutics, 1999
To achieve a discontinuous drug delivery to the skin a new actively controlled transdermal system has been developed. The system consists of a tube shaped drug reservoir in combination with an electronic circuit and a gas producing cell. A magnetic switch was used to control the onset of the production of hydrogen gas.

Nitroglycerin: New concepts about an old drug

The American Journal of Medicine, 1976
Abstract Increasing evidence has profoundly challenged previously accepted concepts about the actions and clinical uses of nitroglycerin. Traditionally, use of this agent has been contraindicated in patients with acute myocardial infarction because of its hypotensive effects, and it has had no place in the therapeutic armamentarium of heart failure or

BIOEQUIVALENCE COMPARISON OF TWO DRUG-IN-ADHESIVE TRANSDERMAL NITROGLYCERIN PATCHES

American Journal of Therapeutics, 1996
Plasma concentrations of nitroglycerin, 1,2-dinitroglycerin and 1,3-dinitroglycerin in 50 healthy male subjects who received single 24-h applications of two 0.6 mg/h drug-in-adhesive transdermal nitroglycerin patch formulations were compared for the purpose of establishing bioequivalence.

Absence of Drug Interaction Between Heparin and Nitroglycerin

Archives of Internal Medicine, 1990
The purpose of this randomized crossover study was to determine whether nitroglycerin interacts with heparin in terms of its anticoagulative properties as determined by activated partial thromboplastin time and thrombin time. Eight healthy adults were given either a 60-minute intravenous infusion of 5 mg of nitroglycerin or a 0.9% sodium chloride ...

A New Topical Drug Delivery System for Nitroglycerin

1981
Nitroglycerin has been the agent of choice for the treatment of angina pectoris for over 100 years. In recent years various long-acting preparations have been introduced for the prophylaxis of angina pectoris and most recently for use in the long term management of a patient with left ventricular dysfunction.

Mechanisms of Respiratory Responses to Vasodilator Drugs Urecholine (Carbaminoyl Beta-Methylcholine) and Nitroglycerine

American Journal of Physiology-Legacy Content, 1957
The effects on respiratory rate and amplitude following intravenous injection of the vasodilator drugs, Urecholine (carbaminoyl-beta-methylcholine) and nitroglycerine were determined in dogs before and after bilateral vagotomy and isolation of the carotid sinuses.
